1000 loader

Postby the1g8r » Fri Aug 03, 2018 2:11 pm

I spoke to a very friendly gentleman today that has an ih 1000 loader for sale. He was quite helpful and knowledgeable about the loader’s condition and any potential issues that I may encounter mounting it to my 140. It came off a cub that he purchased and restored; plus it was working when removed. Unfortunately it looks like it’s going to take a couple weeks for our schedules to match up, but I’ll definitely post an update if the deal comes together.

Make sure the back ends of the frame haven't been cut off. Or be aware and have a plan for dealing with it.

Thanks for the tip on the frame cut! I’ll make sure to take a close look. It was my understanding that a cut had to be made for mounting purposes on a 140, but my knowledge on that is extremely limited. I was hoping to find one that had been used on a cub and was unaltered. I’d much rather have to do it myself if it turns out to be true, rather than buy someone else’s screw up and have limited options.

The cut you reference is to the front triangular hanger that attaches to the square tool bar channel. It is only necessary to be cut when it is used on a 140 with the square industrial axle. Chances are this one has not been cut. Even if it has been cut you can still use it. Jim refers to the rear part of the frame that sticks out from behind the final drive, especially on a Lo-Boy. The full length of the frame is required to mount on a 140. There is a manual in the PDF manuals section you can refer to that this and is very helpful with installation. You'll love this loader on a 140. Much more than on a Cub or Lo-Boy. I've had one on all three and that is why I bought my first 140.

Again with the helpful info. Thanks guys. It’s a relief to hear that I should not have to modify the loader if all goes well and it follows me home. Being a rather rare attachment, I would be much more satisfied leaving it in its original configuration. I seem to be having some trouble accessing the pdf manuals, but it’s probably just user error. I’ll get it figured out. I’m looking forward to reading through it to see what I can learn. I’ll also get a hard copy before installing and using it. Lots of great info available in those old manuals.

The 1000 loader is in the IH IMPLEMENTS AND ATTACHMENTS folder. There is an Operators Manual and Parts Manual.

This picture was taken by the current owner. Thought I would throw it up as a teaser. Overall condition seems pretty good. The bucket is oversized at 65” and will need to be addressed. Also, I can only see one control lever. Not sure if that was ever offered from the factory, if it was changed out at some point, or if it is just broken or missing.

I don't know much about these loaders as I have never had one; but it looks as if the ends of the frame (where it tapers) has been cut off. Approximately 6-8 inches worth. Granted, if this is the case and it is a good deal, and if you want it; it could always be fixed to work by a good welder.

Chase is right. The frame has been cut off at the back. As is, it will not mount to your 140.

Good eye guys. Thanks. It didn’t make sense to me that one side was longer than the other, but without seeing it in person; you can’t be completely sure. Pictures like this don’t always do an item justice either. Welding on this level is above my meager experience, but I know a couple really good fabricators. He is asking a fair price for a bolt up ready loader, but this new info adds more total out of pocket for me. We’ll see if he would be willing to negotiate before I take the drive. Thanks for your insights guys.

I saw that loader for sale and the price, with the frame being cut and the wrong bucket I think it's to high. That's just me though, if you want it and can make it work go for it.

Yeah, I’m not a buyer at his price with the cut frame. I could deal with the bucket at my skill level and expected to replace hydraulic lines on anything that I found. Even replacing the control lever would be expected and not a deal breaker as long as the price would be fair. The cut frame is the big issue especially after I asked specifically about frame modifications or damage. Granted, he may not be aware of what it should look like; but saying it would bolt right up... he’s going to come off it to keep me as an interested buyer.

Very likely the seller was just repeating what he had been told or assumed rather than factual information. I've encountered the same situation many times on a lot of different subjects. :hattip:
