A vs SA vs C

Postby wamdog » Wed May 02, 2018 12:56 pm

Hello. New to group and Farmalls. But not new to tractor resto. I have a 41 Allis B I did few yrs back. I’m doing a 40 Farmall A and was thinking of changing block to Super A for hydro. My question is since I’m going this far I would opt for more HP of the Super C. Does anyone know if the C would bolt to my A torque tube bell housing? Possible other fittment issues?

Thanks
WAM

If you are going to install touch control you also need torque tube. There is no place for it on A, only SA.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

So the torque tube is diff, maybe its not worth it, but that's exactly why I purchased a set of the heavy duty super A fenders to mount the lift mech
thanks.

My personal opinion is that you'd have less aggravation and expense finding a Super A and cashing the A out.

There are significant differences between the A and Super A from the flywheel back. Different torque tube, different fenders (needed to support rear rockshaft) different finals and implement mounting holes. I would do what Don says if you want a Super A. Now, you can bolt a Super A, C, Super C, etc. engine to the A torque tube with no issues. I have a friend with a Super C that he tractor pulls with that has a C-153 engine bolted to it, IIRC the only real issue he had was the exhaust hole in the manifold had to be moved to use the stock Super C hood. Unless you looked closely you wouldn't recognize the bigger engine.

Thanks Guys, its always been some type of disease for me to put bigger motor on smaller unit.

eg. I think it started when I was a kid, stuffed a bigger motor on my dirt bike chassis.
then my Dad's 1968 Sears Super SS 12, cut the hood a little and put a 18hp OHV.
next was a Ski-Doo Blizzard 5500 snowmobile cut the hood out and put a Yam 900 twin drag bike motor.
lastly was an 84 HD Sporster, cut frame in half and stretched 8" stuffed 96" stroker motor 280 rear tire.
