Disc for 140

Postby Festus » Wed Apr 04, 2018 8:59 pm

I found an IH disc with 1 point hitch and am considering buying it to use on the 140 to garden with (If it ever stops raining). Would only be used on ground that had been plowed. Anyone have experience with them? What kind of job do these little discs do working and leveling ground? Tractor has loaded rear tires and front wheel weights.

If memory serves me correct, the size of the prong for the 140 and the Cub are different. So, be sure the disk is for a 140 and not a Cub. The Cub has the smaller of the two prongs. Others will be along to correct me if I'm not right.

Prongs are the same as far as size goes. There might have been a difference in the way the prong is attached (seems to be a matter of height from the ground) between the Cub and the 140 version of the implement, depending on what it is.

Festus is it a tandem disk? I have an IH 120 that I pull with my Super A (with fast hitch.) It does a great job. Obviously with a disk that small you're limited on how much weight it has, but it still does a good job cutting through trash, etc.

Yes, it is a tandem disc. I know IH made several different models. Should there be a model/serial tag somewhere on the frame to ID it with?

Most likely no unless it is a late one. Can you post a pic?

I've noticed that some (the later ones like a 120) have actual tags on them. The earlier ones might have had a tag, but I have never seen any with them. Most all of them had the model painted on there or a decal applied.

Not smart enough to post a picture but according to what I see online, this is a 1-F36 model. I did buy it and have it home now and am anxious for the ground to dry enough to get the disc in the ground. Will probably go through it and paint it next winter. Thanks for the help gentlemen.

I don't think they put tags on them until the 122 but I could be wrong.

My 215 plow does not have a tag but a friend of mine has a very late one with a tag.

Festus IMO you can't go wrong with an IH disk.

It finally dried enough to disc the garden spot and I was really surprised how well the little disc works. I like having the ability to raise and lower each end of the disc separately. Thanks for the help.
