I have a Farmall 140 (my first tractor, bought in 2015 when I was 69 yrs old) which a Farmall expert told me is an excellent candidate for a restoration. He mentioned that the original color for the fenders was yellow, not red like the rest of the tractor except for the oil pan which he says was black. I looked closely at the fenders and found that there was yellow paint showing at a level lower than the red which is on the top layer.
My question is why don’t any of the restored 140’s I see sport these colors rather than the all red paint jobs in the photos I have found. I am totally new to all this, so be gentle with me.

Re: Newbie Question
The fenders are supposed to be red, that’s primer underneath. Only reason the oil pan should be black is if you have a severe oil leak, it’s red as well. I wouldn’t take anymore paint advice from the expert, lol.

Re: Newbie Question
my 140 was originally ALL yellow , but its an International 140 Industrial model. Does your 140 have a square or diamond front axle, and does it have a accelerator pedal?
better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it...( YES this includes CUBS! )

Re: Newbie Question
How someone paints their tractor is totally up to them. Aside from that ever-popular topic...
Welcome to the Forum!
Take some time and read through a few threads to acquaint yourself with the Forum:
After your 2nd post on the Forum, you'll have access to the all the free PDF Manuals. We're kinda light on manuals for the 140, but there could be something in there of interest to you. They are located via "Quick Links" in the upper left corner of your screen. Hit that and a pull-down appears where you'll find "PDF Manuals". Through that link, you'll be able to download an Owner's Manual (very strongly recommended) and any service manuals that interest you. You'll be able to familiarize yourself with your new-to-you Cub more quickly. Implement Manuals are also available.
Might also enjoy reading through this thread: What to do with a Cub you just brought home
Take some pictures of your tractor and post them. We'd like to see it.
Glad you joined us.

I'm not sure of the axle - it looks round to me. No accelerator pedal. There is a lever to the left of the steering wheel that has a kind of sawtooth side against which the lever is supposed to rest in the desired position, but mine is pretty well worn, so the guy who sold it to me just put a clamp on the thing to hold it wherever he wanted it to stay.
