A nice thing about discussion boards is folks having different opinions on most topics.

My WD and WC Allis Chalmers Operator's Manuals lists the octane rating for distillate engines as 30 octane rating or higher. The octane rating for gasoline engines is 60 octane or higher.

Didn't find the printing date on the manuals, guessing around 1935 to 1949.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Welcome to today's "post-truth" world. The unfortunate thing is that among the differing opinions on factual subjects, there is at most one correct while the rest are just flat-out wrong. In the case of the distillate thread on YT, Janicholson gave a correct explanation.

Above, a discussion on distillate.

I'd read that and discounted it, worriedly! It seemed to be two differing opinions. So, do we know if teh engine is designed to run on kerosene, but it just happens to run perfectly well of petrol? Or does it need this "blend" of whatever fuels we happen to have lying around?

This is gonna be entertaining...

My grandfather's new kerosene/distillate Super A never ran anything but gasoline.

I don't see any differing opinions in the thread on what to run, only on what distillate is, which if you "distill" it down, they are splitting hairs.

Isn't the operative question here, "What fuel to use?"

The answer is, "gasoline." True petroleum distillate is no longer available, even if you wanted to be period correct.
