decisions decisions

Postby Indy4570 » Sat Feb 24, 2018 5:09 am

should I or shouldn't I..... looks to be a 140...60 in woods belly mower, don't know whats on the rear as far as draw-bar or whut... sposed to run, mow. missing the lower grill piece, front tires look huge. has the old A style hubs but I find many pics of different years on 140s but most have the one piece rims, thing is its cheap for what it is, needs a proper air cleaner. carb obviously leaks...What say you? I was shopping for a cub but I can get this for less than a cub with a belly mower... lets just say way under 2k. iffin it runs n isn't afflicted with anything terrible....lots more ponies under the hood than a cub...I might could give it a new home :P

Could be a 130. Check the serial plate and figure out what it is. Someone could have changed the sheet metal or the front wheels/hubs.

I don't understand what decision you have to make. Seems like a no brainer to me....

I'm guessing it's a 130 also. No question here. If you're looking for a Cub, and can get this for less, you're going to be WAY happier with this than a Cub. MUCH more tractor for the money!!! The only exception to this is if you have a wet or soft lawn, this tractor weighs more than double what a Cub weighs, so that's one thing to consider, especially if you need to mow in the spring when everything is soft. Otherwise, I can't think of any other drawbacks, but lots of positives for the 130/140.

will hopefully go see it tomorrow. haven't got anything more to go on but this single pic. is a good 2.5 hour drive. will be dragging the trailer just in case she purrs like a kitten and I cant resist. I have the 140 serials written down , will write down the 130 numbers so I can ID it. while it is cheap it will take just about every penny I have. That's my conundrum. At the same time I do feel it will be increasing my net worth if I do buy it. I still have my cub and can find a mower eventually for it. This having much more power is more suited to my needs. I am curious, what makes some of you think it is a 130? the front hubs? I see them on many 140s, and with no apparent rhyme or reason when looking at years.I cant be certain but it may have the industrial front axle with the rear brace. if it doesn't flood anymore and I can get out of here with the truck n trailer tomorrow I will know more :tractor:

I take back what I said about it being a 130. I was looking at the front tin, and now realize it is the tin from an early 140, not a 130. If the tin is correct, it is definitely a 140, just missing the white grill. Hope all goes well for you, and wish I was going after a new tractor tomorrow!!!

Looks like a 140 to me.

I think the wheel/rim style on the front of a 140 may have depended on what tire size was selected, haven't verified in parts catalog. This tractor appears to have the 140 style generator belt. The 130 had a fan of similar design as the Cub with the water pump in the inlet elbow. One belt ran the fan and water pump. The separate generator belt was driven by a second pulley on the fan hub. The 140 water pump was on the same shaft as the fan. A single belt ran both the fan/pump and generator. It also has a 140 style steering wheel. Otherwise, the sheet metal is about all that would look different in a picture of the left side.

it is a 1962 140 industrial with the industrial front axle with brace and 16in front tires and accelerator pedal and traces of yellow here n there. woods L306 72in belly mower in great shape and runs great. I t has weeps n seeps n leaks here in there but thats the fun of old tractors, making them better and givn them a lil love. Yes, it followed me home, at $1400 I could not pass it up, I have seen this mower in worse shape than mine advertised at $1500.

could use some rubber in the future and new belts on the mower.

so, looking for a front grill, emblems and an aircleaner :P be a lil bit as I spent all my pennies for now

:tractor: if I stop being addicted to old tractors I think I might be dead, I really do have a use for this tractor though it will be my mowing machine for years to come I believe :{_}:

I guess I didn't know what a farmall 140 sells for, I did some looking at craigslist all over the country, and YES I am definitely doin the happy dance ;)

to have a 72 in woods instead of a 60 and it being an industrial is icing on the cake :)

I have to say that driving it around compared to my cub,... WOW, its a BEAST compared to the lil cubby! :{_}: :{_}: :{_}:

thank you very much! but...I didnt get a Farmall :( , its an industrial repainted red so its an International! :P

already bought the first part for it, no farm stores around me and I knew I was going past an Orshelns so I picked up a raincap for the muffler, so I now have $1406.45 in it :P

cant seem to find much info on the industrials, seems they are lumped in with all 140 serial numbers, this one has the ser number and a J stamped in the plate, nothing else is left

I did find on tractordata that the 6.00-16 was an option with both the red international 140 and the international 140 industrial front tires, the farmall only shows the 5.00-15 fronts
