What are my options for replacement? I guess I should say what tractors match, or was the super AV different from all the others?

Check parts book to be sure but I believe late Super A and the Super AV are the same. Early Super A will bolt together but the final is not as heavy-duty.

Went back and checked and you need housing 9824DC. caseIH calls it 9824DCX because they sell (sold) it as an assembly with some nuts and bolts.

Looks like your tractor is late enough to have the toggle brakes. You probably need a later version of the housing for the brakes. Those housings are left/right so you need a left. The axle is different between Super A and Super AV so you are likely to need to change the axle if you get a complete assembly. I thought the 100/130/140 housings might be the same but they have different part numbers. Whether you could use one of them seems questionable.

I used to have some of this stuff memorized, I need to get my TC39C out and look, but I don't think the housing matters with toggle brakes the way it does with Cubs. I would bet that a 100-130-140 housing would work but who knows? Superman you can check your old one to verify the number of the housing itself, it should be cast on it.

They didn't have to keep the old number in the parts catalog to go with the early brakes. So it isn't as severe as it is with the Cub. But there were revisions made to the casting at one or more times. I don't know if lack of a revision on an earlier casting would keep it from working with the later brakes.

The 9824DC casting will work fine if you run across one.

Making progress... Pushed tractor in shop and started tearing down. Got front end off, engine on stand, and tires off.
Will start working on individual parts as needed and time allows. Photo Bucket is giving me nothing but problems, so I am switching to Google Photo links, hope it works.
