Can a Super A Pull Two 14" Bottoms?

Postby Super A » Sat Mar 16, 2013 6:35 pm

You :censored: skippy it can!!

Getting Old Ugly ready for next weekend's IH Collector's Chapter 37 Plowday. Thanks to help from Boss I got the helper spring installed on the Fast Hitch arm. Really makes a difference in lifting the plow!

I just about have the adjustments dialed in, and I believe we are ready. I'm gonna clean out Old Ugly's pipes next weekend! :big smile:

Your ground must turn a little easier than our Mo. red clay. Here pulling two 14s at 6 to 8 inches deep is a good load for an H, and a single 14 is a load for a Super A.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!

Not suprising. I believe the only real difference between the Super A engine and the Super C was about 150 rpm. Vern

Stock Super A engine was 113CID, Super C was 123. In all likelihood, though, this Super A has thin sleeves/big pistons to equal 123 cu. in.

The rule of thumb in this area back when Super A's were getting overhauled with the bigger IH Fire Crater pistons/sleeves (which most farmers referred to as a "Super C kit") was that an overhauled Super A could carry the same load in 3rd that it used to pull in 2nd gear. Being my tractor is a little bit tired, I was a little concerned how it would do with the bigger bottoms. So far it has not disappointed....

Keep the plow shares cleaned and oiled between uses and it will pull good right from the beginning. Let em rust and pit and they are a dog till they scour clean. Of course you can grind em clean but why wear em out before their time.

IH had a couple different 2-bottom fast hitch plows for the 140. If I'm not mistaken that's a 215 plow.

That'd be a good way to keep my Super A from rolling away in one of Dad's fields... Even after close to 40 years of picking stone it's still mostly rocks.

Yep it's a 215. Replaced the shares, shins and landslides and it was good to go. Lots of them still around here, our community was wrapped up in 140's 130's 100's and Super A's.
