Steering wheel repair

Postby Dusty B » Mon Aug 03, 2020 8:13 pm

Moderators may want to move this to How To category: W/try to include pics! Have seen some posts of repairing steering wheels w/JB weld or epoxy.
My solution:
1. Beat off all old bakelite w/ Big Dog's big hammer!
2. Sand, prime then paint spokes.
3. Cut 1/2" pipe insulation to length to wrap around rim.
4. Wrap insulation firmly w/black electric tape, overlapping layers to completely seal.
5. Amazon, Wally Mart or wherever for cheap perforated steering wheel cover (15" is just right, pick color of your choice!).
6. Follow directions to wrap lacing to complete closing of rim!
This gives you a comfortable, attractive steering wheel of your color of choice!!
