First Lo Boy I've owned
I'm a new member to the forum, although I have read it many times. Just purchased a Lo Boy 185 and in the process of ringing it out. Starts and idles like a sewing machine, but has problems when trying to get rpm's out of it. I'm retired and I'll keep working on it. I also have a Cub Cadet 129 that I'm building a front loader for, an old Allis 17 horse hydro lawn tractor, a WD and a Ford 2n in the process of rebuilding the engine. Lot's to do but right now enjoying getting to know the Lo Boy.

Re: First Lo Boy I've owned
Welcome to the forum. I had a 154 Lo boy for many years. I had to clean the carb occasionally. Easy way to tell is pull the choke out a little when trying to get rpm's. If it runs better, it's probably a fuel problem. Looks like you've got a full plate of projects. Have fun with them,I do!

Re: First Lo Boy I've owned
Incorrect timing can cause a miss and loss of power at high rpm as well. Recommend you check the timing.

Welcome to the forum. The governor spring lever part #11 must move freely on the shaft part #12 for the rpm to increase. Typical problem due to age, contamination, etc. Penetrating oil, soak, patience, might even have to remove the lever to clean it. It's cast and fragile so use caution to prevent breaking it. Click on the picture to make it larger. Good Luck, Stan

Welcome.
Stan has you covered for a common throttle, engine rpm, problem. Remove the hood. As you move the throttle lever on the dash watch the action at the governor. Also watch the throttle cable.

I have an excuse. CRS.
