Hello there I have a hitmiss motor I need to time!

Postby violalee » Sun Mar 08, 2015 5:50 pm

I'm hunting for the manual to an IHC 3 hp made in 1919 with the type "L" magneto. The fellah that owned it last was using a buzz box from a model T on it. AND I think it needs rebuilt judging from the misalignment of the timing marks.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

Thanks and glad to be a member!

Welcome to the forum from Arkansas. I am sure there are several on here that know and understand the hit n miss but not me -- I am still amazed by then and still wonder why they went by the way side. Good luck with it.

Welcome.

Conduct a web search using "Hit and Miss Engine Clubs". Quite a number of hits. Not sure what you will find.

Suspect that if the previous owner was operating the engine with an external coil, that the magneto's coil is shot.

Depending on what you want to do you could try to replace the magneto's coil. Or instal an external coil, using the magneto's points to fire the engine's spark plug.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Smokestak.com can probably help you more than we can, with hit or miss engines.
