Hello. I am from Waterloo IL. Recently purchased a 1949 Farmall A. It's in real good shape. Still original. I just replaced the fuel bowl assembly and put 6 volt bulbs back into headlamps. Also put new rubber seals in the headlamps. I'm really wanting to keep it as original as possible. Also wanting to get a push/grader blade. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions.
Like first question...Does the engine have the valves in the head or in the block?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Welcome to the Forum. Hope you have LOTS of fun with your "new" A. If you check the links above, you will find Rudi's Manuals, and scrolling down, you will find a listing of several including the A, as well as the SA. Here is the link to the A Manual:

You will hear this from others, but when you get a chance, post some photos of your tractor...we DO like pictures!!

Joe, Welcome to the Forum. I don't have an A, but I think this link will answer your valve question: http://www.cleancomputes.com/Cub/A%20-% ... e%2008.jpg

Welcome to the site.
By 1949, IH was building the Super A which replaced the A. There were a lot of differences between the 2 models. If you post the serial number and a picture we can sort it out.

I looked up the serial number on Tractordata and it shows it is a 1949. Here are some pics. As you may be able to see, the previous owner left the lifting assembly attached.

Welcome to the forum.
I looked on Tractordata.com also and it shows as a 1947 "A".

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

I agree with Barnyard. The first Super A (December 1947) was serial 250001.

I stand corrected. It is a 1947.
Here's another picture.

Re: New member Joe
Were all regular model A's known as "CULTI-VISION"?
Also, to let you all know, this tractor is very straight. I can see now dents in the metal and only surface rust. The previous owner did paint the grill. He told me someone offered him $500 for the grill but he wanted to keep it all original as well. I'm glad he did.

Re: New member Joe
Joe, Culti-vision referred to all the offset Farmalls. That would include Cubs, A's, etc.
