Hello from Long Island. This 1953 Cub was retrieved from a dusty barn yesterday and will be getting some well deserved TLC. It was purchased new by my wife's grandfather and saw many years of duty but has been sitting for a few years now and needs some work. Glad I found this forum as I'll be needing some help to get this fixed up.

Re: Hello from Long Island
Welcome, Keith. Looks like a good project. Wheel weights all around, 54-A blade with extension, part of a C-22 sickle bar mower, depth control lever and dogbones and latch bar for a 189 two way plow. You might want to go to the "PDF Manuals" link above and print off the manuals for the C-22 and 189, then check the Cub for bits/parts/pieces still mounted on the Cub. Next stop, the barn for the remainder of the parts.
Good luck.
Bill

Keith, Welcome to the Forum. Let us know if you need help with anything. In addition to the implement manuals Bill mentioned, you can also find parts, operator's, service, etc. manuals there. When you get ready to start the Cub, you'll need to prime the oil pump, but that will be after some other preliminary steps.

Re: Hello from Long Island
Good eye Bill, the sickle bar is in the barn along with some other attachments. Its been 2-3 years since it last ran so I'm thinking new fluids and filters, new battery, some oil in cylinders, new plugs, thorough cleaning of the carb and fuel tank, and prime oil pump (thanks Bob). Any other key steps needed before trying to fire it up? I've got the original manual here so will go through it for all the recommended maintenance tasks.

A clean fuel system and lubrication as shown in the manual are the main things. You may need to replace points, condenser, and plugs depending on their condition.

Welcome to the forum! Nice '53! Would suggest no one throw anything away from that barn until you've had the chance to look at it!
You might want to run through this list of what to do with a Cub you just brought home: viewtopic.php?f=145&t=16305 It might give you some food for thought.
Again, welcome (stay warm and safe the next few days against that storm)!

Re: Hello from Long Island
Part of the mower is on the tractor as are many of the mounting parts for a Cub-189 two-way plow. You definitely need to go back to the barn and keep digging. From the picture, it appears to be original condition, never repainted.
