Hello from SE North Carolina

Postby huntsabunch » Thu Jun 12, 2014 9:50 am

I wanted to say "Hi" to everyone and "thanks" in advance, as I am sure I will gain a wealth of knowledge from the members. Fact is, I have already learned a lot from reading old posts. This is by far the best, most active, most "in depth" forum I have found on the subject.
Now for the bad news. I don't have a "Cub", I have a 140. I hope that doesn't make me an outcast :-) . I also have several other tractors that do the heavy lifting on my hobby farm but they are too complex for me to work on. I am very mechanical but not a mechanic. My '68 model 140 has just the right level of complexity to be challenging yet enjoyable.
A little bit about me: I seem to be on the fast track to being an "old guy". I say that because i'll be 59 this year and only a year or two ago I was 30. I am a died in the wool conservative, traditional values guy who believes in personal responsibility and that all laws should fall within the framework of the constitution.
I am a lifelong member of the "DIY" fraternity and my moto is "DIY or DIE". My interests range from distilling my own spirits to firearms manufacturing (with lots in between) and would enjoy discussing same with any interested party.
I fear I will be more of a "taker" than "giver" when it comes to this fourm but I am a self taught machinist and welder, and might be able to provide some knowledge in these areas. The ability to make bushings, spacers, threaded inserts, etc. in any size can go a long way to rejuvenating an old tractor.
I also have a dog and a pickup. I'm kinda surprised this isn't a requirement for membership.
Thanks again for having me and I look forward to being part of the discussion.

Welcome to the group. Cub or not, You will still walk away with plenty of knowledge from the folks here.
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Welcome to the group! It sounds like you have a number of useful talents, which might give cause for you to share some projects with us.

Just for the record, I don't have a dog but have enough pick-up trucks to make up the difference.

Hey calabash!

My wife grew up in Cherry Grove, been to your area many times. Our farm is in Lake City, SC, so just 1.5 hours away. Let us know if we can help.

Thanks for the warm welcome everybody. I'm still learning to navigate this site and use some of the features so I might seem a little clumsy. Looks like there are a few members pretty close by. Also some interesting coincidence, such as Dan's brother living 30 minutes from me at Holden Beach while my brother lives 30 minutes from him over at Mooresville. It's a small world, made even smaller by the internet. These are amazing times we live in. Let's try not to screw it up for our grand kids.
