New From N WI

Hi,

I live in the Minong WI area. I am recently retired (thus giving me some time to finally play with my tractors). I own a 1950 Farmall Cub with dual wheels, a 1950 Farmall H with a 9 speed transmission, a 1946 Ford 2N and a 1952 JD 50. Having spent much of my youth on a Farmall H, the Farmalls are my favorites. My grandkids love them and usually start driving the Cub at an early age.

One problem I do have with the Cub is that the steering is extremely loose. The problem seems to be that the Steering Worm Wheel Shaft has a lot of up-and-down play. I haven't torn into it yet but was wondering if there are any gotchas or parts I should be looking at?

Thanks for your help,
Dave

Welcome to the Forum. Sounds like you have a nice barn full of tractors. There is a castellated nut on the bottom of the shaft with a cotter pin. You can remove the cotter, tighten the nut and probably eliminate a majority of the play. This can be done without diassembling the front end. Here's a link to the GSS-1411 Blue Ribbon Service manual section on steering. Repair, maintenance, parts, and implement manuals are available in either the PDF Manuals link or Rudi's Server Manual link in the tool bar above.

Hi Todd,

I'm very familiar with Appleton. Nice area. I worked at Kimberly Clark from 2001-2006. I also worked at Schneider National in Green Bay from 2010-2012. Actually I still work for Schneider part time from home.

Welcome to the forum from Arkansas. I'm sure you will love the forum and retirement. Concerning retirement, I've been retired 8 years. There was a couple of times I got bored for about two hours, then I got up and did something -- end boredom. Hope you enjoy.
