Hi everyone!
I'v e been a red man my whole life. My son, Noah, is the sixth generation in my family to be into Farmalls. I have owned my 48 Cub for about 8 years now and have been slowly getting it completed and running over that time. My cub came to me on trade in return for my labor and parts on a Ford 9N that a friend of mine owned. I wish I knew more about Cub's before this, because mine was a basket case with many missing and incomplete parts. I got it pieced mostly back together about a year ago. I was able to get it running briefly only after pull starting it. I have been away from it for about a year now and hopefully will be able to get back to it this weekend. It has some sticky valves that I need to get remedied. Other than that, engine wise it should be ready to go soon. The tractor had always been sheded before I got it and the engine turns free, but I never have had it start under it's own power or run for more than a couple of minutes. I have a cub power unit from a 55T square baler that I am considering swapping heads from to give my cub a little more oomf. I'm looking forward to meeting many of you and for any advice and suggestions that I can get in the years ahead. Thanks and have a blessed day!

P.S. I'mm going to try Marvel Mystery oil and sea foam on my sticky valves this weekend and see if that is what it takes to finally get this thing back to good running order.

Ben, Welcome to the Forum. You'll find a lot of friendly and knowledgeable Cub lovers here. If you have any problems or questions feel free to ask away. The tool bar above contains a wealth of information that you'll find useful. I doubt that changing heads will give much of a power boost.

Welcome to the board Ben! Glad to have you with us!
The heads are the same between the tractors and power units, unless it is a High Altitude version.

Welcome to the forum from Arkansas. Fuel, fire and timing, compression. Most cubs have plenty of power for what they were made for (just my thoughts.) Had it running and won't stay running, first thing that comes to mind, fuel flow. Needs to have a good fuel flow to a clean carb. Those little jets with stop up at nothing.

Ben:

G'day to you. MMO or SeaFoam will do wonders on stuck valve's. We have a lot of resources for our members including Owner's, Parts and Service Manuals at the links below. And we have lots of members who are willing to help.

Image to Farmallcub.com :big smile: Forum Family. And you have come to the right place for all things Cub related. If you click on the Site Rules, Regulations, & Important Information, it will point you to  the Welcome Wagon wherein you will find links to many useful sites and topics. One of the most important resources are Owner's Manuals, Parts Catalogs and Service Manuals. The Cub Manual Server is the home of the jpg versions and the /index.php]PDF Manuals -- well the pdf's of course  Enjoy!.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! I was able to get some wrench time in on my cub today. I have the sticky valve problem remedied now with the help of some Marvel Mystery Oil. I dumped it in around the valves, cranked over the engine a few times, and let it sit overnight until this afternoon. The valves all move freely and smoothly now. Hopefully next weekend I can get spend some time on my carb. Up to this point, I have the timing set right, good spark, and good compression. Last year when I had it running briefly I was pretty sure that my carb was not working properly. I never have been able to get a float set properly on nearly any carb that I've ever worked on. Another issue I had when it ran last year was that the governor did not seem to want to move much and when I moved the throttle, it was very difficult to get any change in rpm due to the resistance at the governor linkage. I;m not sure what could be going on there.
Thanks
Ben
