First Cub

Postby KenlyNC Cub » Wed Oct 27, 2010 9:52 pm

After months I finally bought my first Cub. It is a 1947 and in decent condition. I picked up a Bush Hog model 412 belly mower. Now I just have to get enough power out of it to run the mower. It has been a lot of fun over the past month working on parts that were fine to begin with and learning more about my tractor. I've attached a picture of my yet to be named new child.

Easiest, cheapest way to find more power is to make sure the mower blades run higher in back, lower in front, attacking the grass at a slight angle. Maybe 1/2" to 5/8" difference in front to rear height. The green tractor people make a nice guage to check this measurement. BTW, where is 27542? I'm in Kannapolis, NC

Congrats on acquiring your very first Cub :applause: I am sure you will find them very addictive.

Image to Farmallcub.com :big smile: Forum Family. And you have come to the right place for all things Cub related. If you click on the Site Rules, Regulations, & Important Information, it will point you to  the Welcome Wagon wherein you will find links to many useful sites and topics. One of which is the Cub Manual Server. Enjoy!.

To gain the power you need to run the mower, I would suggest doing a complete maintenance check on your Cub. You can find all that information in the McCormick-Deering Farmall Cub Owner's Manual 5-23-47 or in the Preventive Maintenance Manual 6-13-58.

Enjoy your Cub :D

Thanks for the greetings. I've been working my way through the preventative maintenance manual here and there. Kenly is in North Carolina and is about 45 minutes east of Raleigh.

Welcome to the best forum on the web!

I'd be interested in how those dual stacks are hooked up. Any other pics you might display would be appreciated. What's the serial number on it?

Thanks for sharing.

I'll try to get a good picture of the dual exhaust in the next day or two. The second exhaust isn't really functional..it typically doesn't get very hot in comparison to the other. The SN on the tractor is 5249.
Take care,
David

David:

Interesting pics. I am sure that many of our other members who don't really visit the Introduction forums.. would like to see this. Suggest you post this in the main Farmall Cub forum which is where the majority of our posts go. This forum really is for introducing ourselves..... where folks can learn a little about us.

Could you put a baffle in the "T" to make half the exhaust go into the other pipe?
