New 154 Loboy Owner Today! With Loader and Tiller too

Postby ClackamasCub » Tue Jul 22, 2008 9:08 pm

Hi Y'all!

Very excited about the purchase of a 154 Lowboy, complete with belly mower, 3pt, 1050 loader and tiller out here in Oregon, where I have never seen another one.

I blame all you enthusiasts on this forum for making me feel comfortable enough with a somewhat unknown commidty to pull the trigger on the purchase! (That's what I told the wife, anyway...)

These things seem very popular in the mid-west, south and east, but rare in the west? It seems more rare yet to find a runner so equipped?

She starts and runs, hydraulics seem fairly smooth, tiller isn't siezed. She seems pretty rough over all, but all there, including serviceable sheet metal.

I'm a fair wrench, not afraid of much, but know nuthin' about this beast. So I'm open to any and all advice warnings, and guidance any one cares to offer.

Thanks so much. You all seem like very nice folks and I look forward to the interaction.

Thanks!

Welcome aboard! It's kind of cub-lonely in Oregon but you can join in the fun here and we'll try to be of assistance if you need some. It sounds like that 154 is well-equipped. You should have lots of fun with it.

CC:

Welcome to the forum and Congrats :applause: on the 154 Lo-Boy acquisition. Bet ya can't stop at just one... :big smile: Many of us cannot, these critters are addictive either in the Original, New and Shorter, Numbered and Tiny Flavours, a Cub is well, a Cub :!:

I do not have a lot of info on the server yet for the Numbered Series Cubs, but you are in luck as there are a few items there for the 154 Lo-Boy including the Operator's Manual, the TC-131 Revision 8 Parts Catalog and the Blade for the Lo-Boy. I am on the lookout for more and am bidding on one now, so with luck there will be another manual along shortly. There are a couple of the less than IH quality, I&T Service Manuals that cover the 154 on the server, and combined with some of the experts on these particular critters like Gary Dotson and company, you will have all the help you need to put this puppy right.

Enjoy the ride and I am glad you were comfy enough with us to make this leap of faith. Wow! That's pretty 8)

One of which is the Cub Manual Server where you will find a bunch of really useful links.

Wow! Thanks all for the warm welcome! I have printed out the owners manual (thanks Rudi) and some bits of the service manual.
I don't think I'll have much time to tinker before late fall, but look forward to many winter nights in the shop getting the 154 sorted out and put right.

The good news is that the main shaft and PTO shaft were replaced by the dealer about 7 years ago, so I am hoping to avoid those scary problems I've read about here.

The bad news is that, so far I've discovered that the mower won't lower down or "float".

Anybody know how the tiller is supposed to attach to the three point and hydaulics work with the pump that appears to operate the loader removed from the three pt? It would be nice to be able to have an operable loader and tiller attached at the same time.
Anybody know where there are implement manuals for the tiller and loader?
Also,ID plate on left frame rail is worn so bad I cant get anything from it so don't know what year I've got either.

Thanks again to all.

We would need to know the model # of the tiller and loader, or at least a few good pics so we could figure it out. I am always looking for manuals for the server on :eBay:, so that is a good place. I just missed Revision 8 of the TC-131 for the 154 and 184.. and am currently watching one for the 154, 185 and 184..so hopefully that may appear in a while.

IF anyone has any manuals for the numbered series Cubs, I sure would appreciate good straight full scans or possible the manual so I could scan it.

On the Serial # plate.. sometimes a good wash with Simple Green etc., will help clean it and it might become legible. If not, as long as the stampings are partially there, then the judicious use of graphite from a pencil might provide some legibility after rubbing it a tad.

Welcome! I'm glad to have another Cub owner within 200 miles of here. There aren't many Cubs this far west.
