Farmall Cub

OH where oh where can my little cub be? Hi everyone i'm becky and I am trying to find my Grandaddys cub. My aunt sold it a few years ago with out asking any one. She did the same to the log house my grandaddy built and it was used for a practice burn for the greensboro NC fire department. I pray that the tractor did not meet a similar fate. I have one picture of the tractor and I think it was a 47'. I can post it if needed. Untill now I had no place to use or store it. but after 21yrs in the Navy we live in central IL. and actually have LAND! I asked my Daddy about the tractor but he is having real problems with his memory and couldn't help me. I know he would be thrilled to know I have the tractor. Ya see, I'm the most logical one to keep it safe aftter all I do owe it one.I DROVE IT INTO THE LAKE WHEN I WAS ABOUT 6. I TOLD MY BROTHER I COULDN'T REACH THE BRAKES !! anyway it was sold in greensboro NC along with a disc, cultivators , and a bent smoke stack where I hit the apple tree limb. I promise I will take better care with it If I can find it now. We plan a trip to Nc in aug and I would live to bring it back with me! Thanks for listing to my life story, Becky

Welcome to the best darned forum on the internet, Becky. It is amazing how many memories are built along with these little machines...they are like a part of the family, aren't they?

To help you in locating the cub, do you happen to have or did your family save any paperwork that came along with it? The reason I ask it having a serial number for the tractor would make it much easier for someone to really know if it was your long lost tractor. It is going to be tough to find it to be sure, but I am sure that the folks in NC will keep their eyes peeled!

In the mean time, why not go out and look for a little cub of your own to get you started. That way, you don't have to wait to relive the memories on that little machine! Then, when you DO find your family Cub (I am an optimist!) you will have TWO tractors to play with...

It may be a hard go to find your Granddaddy's Cub, but keep up the faith, it may turn up. However, you will have to find the serial number to be 100% positive. It would be nice if you could find it though.. be great. You may want to check with the local tractor clubs and see if anyone there might know who all might have bought a Cub in your area around that time..

I would suggest that you read this thread: New Members and Visitors, Please READ Prior to Posting. There are many great links to informative pages such as the ATIS FAQ's 1 and ATIS FAQ's 2, The Best of H.L. Chauvin who has written very interesting articles on troubleshooting common problems with your Cub. One of the other projects we have been working on and it will be a continuing effort is the How To Work on Your Cub - Maintenance Tips and Techniques. This the the place to go to get all the quick links to some very good articles written by many members of the forum on solving some of the problems we encounter as we repair, maintain and up-grade our Cubs. Keep looking for this to grow.


Also, you might want to visit the Cub Manual Server as there is tons of info on servicing, maintaining and re-building your Cub. In addition to this basic information, there are also a number of other useful tools available on the server. There is the Specialty Services page which has contact info for neat stuff like getting your seats recovered, buying quality Decals, Serial Number tags and a host of other neat items. Also there are the Parts Pages - both Used Parts Suppliers and New Parts Suppliers pages with links to quality dealers. I would also recommend that you visit Binder Books and purchase the three most important manuals you can own for Maintenance, Repair and Rebuilding your Cub. These are the Owner's Manual, the GSS-1411 Service Manual and the TC-37F Parts Manual. Although they are available on the Cub Manual Server, it is better if you also have your own paper copy. Binder Books is the only Authorized IH Publication Reprint House and they have the best quality manuals available. Most other's are not of the same quality. Just a personal thought here, the I&T Shop Manuals, although helpful in some areas, really are not sufficient for the job. If you wish though, they are good additional reference works.

IF you really want to get the skinny on all things Cub, might I suggest you get a copy of Ken Updike's Farmall Cub and Cub Cadet's . While you are at it Original Farmall Cub and Cub Cadet is Ken's latest addition to the series. Along with Guy Fay's Letter Series Originality Guide, these are three must have's in anyone's collection.

In addition to the above information, don't forget to check out the various articles that are available to help with your Repair, Restore, Rebuild or just your Maintenance Projects. There are a number of sub pages such as Electrolysis or Rust Zapper's, Maintenance Tips, Jigs and Techniques, Implement and Part Sketches and of course the Paint, Decals & Other Finish Questions which has the Paint Chart and the Paint Committee Decisions links.

welcome to the forum. Good luck in finding your papaws tractor. A picture would help in the search an serial number would be better. The problem with that is not a lot of people didn't write these numbers down back then. Good luck and hopefully you won't run into a butt like I did. I found my papaws and the guy wouldn't even sell it back for double his money and he never even uses it. So happy hunting. again, welcome

Were now out here in the middle of the soy beans. We really love it here. do you know how I would find the cub groups in NC I started my search by stipulating NC on google but didnt come up with anything. I have my cousin looking through my aunts papers to see if she can find anything. Thanks everyone for the kind words and encouragement. How do I post a picture? I can scan it into the computer. I found out that the tractor was sold around 99' longer than I thought. Hey josh maybe the guy would sell your tractor to someone else, send me his contact info, i'll be glad to contact him about it. I'l put the cubfest on my calender. Any one out there in NC? Thanks, Becky

Already been down that avenue....He just won't let it go. HIs wife left him here while back and he hates the world right now. I guess he thinks since I have stopped and asked about it and since I've had so many people try and buy it that he has got a gold mine. In all reality its just my papaws tractor and he wants to be a hard head about it.

Welcome to the forum. Great place to go for anything Cub! In reguards to your search, there are a couple of guys in N.C. that buy and sell cubs one is a member of this forum and the other one I'm thinking of is a realtor in the Winston-Salem area.
