New to the IH scene, Grapevine Tx
Just purchased a late 1977 Cub,from a neighbor whos father passed away, He knows nothing about the tractor, so I went and looked at, hooked up the battery and it turned over and that was all I needed to know. I took it out to my property and started tinkering with it and found it has no spark, so I guess I will throw some parts at it and see if I can get it to run. Wish me luck!!

Hi,
Welcome to the website.
The Cub operator's manual can help you learn about maintenance that the Cub needs.
Below is the operator's manual for Cubs serial number 248125 and above. The experts on here recommend people read it. It has lots of info about operation, maintenance, and lubrication. There is a table of contents on page 2.
It shows how Cubs originally looked in it. The lube section begins on page 50.
https://farmallcub.com/rudi_cub/www.cle ... index.html
It shows the electrical system that Cubs serial number 248125 and above originally had, with the Delco alternator.
248125 and above originally have the Zenith carburetor too.
They have said on here that IH didn't make a new manual every year.
The Touch Control and other things use Case IH Hy-Tran fluid. It is sold at Case IH dealers.
There are other brands, be sure it works with IH hydraulic systems before buying one.
The manual shows what fluids to use where.
I would check or change all the oils before using the Cub. Using it with low oil in a gear housing can damage the parts in the housing.
There are 3 separate gear housings, with 3 separate oil levels to check, in the rear area of a Cub, the transmission, and 2 final drives.
The transmissions in Cubs commonly get water in them, from rain, or condensation inside the housing over time.
I sent you a PM, you get to it at the top of the page.
Below is a picture of a Cub serial number plate. It originally has the model name on it. Sometimes the plate is painted over by someone, or the words are faded away, so you can't read them.
Good luck with the Cub.

Welcome aboard! My late brother lived in your neighborhood, Grapevine, Keller areas. He was a Cub owner, as well.

No Spark probably means the points need to be lightly filed. (under the distributor cap)

Might want to check to see if the side post on the distributor is getting any power. (6v or 12v)

Re: New to the IH scene, Grapevine Tx
Concentrate on getting the points to fire when they open and close. Once you have established a path to ground at the points you can move on to the other parts of the ignition system--coil to dist cap/dist cap & rotor/plugs, etc. Nothing will happen until you get the points to fire. BTDT, bought the Tee-shirt and wore it out!!!! JMHO Stan
