Hello from Upstate NY

Postby daytime dave » Tue Jan 04, 2022 6:12 pm

Hello from Upstate NY. I joined here almost ten years ago to learn more about Farmalls in general. I bought two Farmall H's with the intention of getting one decent one from the two. I had some time to do that and used my parents farm as a base for the project. My father had an H when I was a kid that he had brought from his parents farm when they sold the farm. He sold it a few years later. He kept his Super A that he and his father bought new in the 50s. He also had a Cub that he bought much later in life. He gave that to me when he traded one of my tractors for something. Both the Super A and the Cub were always set up for cultivating their entire lives on the farm.
I sold my H's after I got one of them running and moving on it's own. I had run out of free time. When my parents passed away, I sold their farm and contents. I only kept one tractor, a small, modern Mahindra that no one seemed to want. I almost kept the Cub, but a buyer happened by just before the farm sold. The cub had about four or five other attachments with it. I wish I could have kept it, but I had no place to store it at the time. I lived in suburbia and was already keeping the Mahindra.
It's about time I make my first post as I'm getting the itch for replacing the Cub.
I now have a small farm and a few compacts to go with the Mahindra. I miss the Cub and the cultivators. I would love to find one and use it here on the farm. I have used both three point hitch and sleeve hitch cultivators but nothing beats Farmalls culti-vision cultivators on a Cub or Super A.
We never had the single point hitch on anything, but on You Tube, it looks interesting.
Dad and I collected other tractors and garden tractors too, but the Farmalls were my favorites. I will post a few pictures of the Cub, if all goes well.

Hi,
The Cub looks good in your pictures.

I noticed that the rod from the Touch Control to the rear rockshaft is upside down. It looks like it almost hits the hood.

Below is a page from the Cub 144 Cultivator owner's manual, showing the rear rockshaft, and rod, in the lower pic on the page.

I guess you don't own the Cub anymore. :)

Welcome back to the Forum, Dave! Unless I misunderstood your description, you currently don't have a Cub, are missing one like you and your dad used to have, and may be looking to buy one in the future. When ready, post a WANTED ad over in the Vine section. You never know someone may have an extra they'd be wiling to let go.

In the meanwhile, take some time and read through a few threads to acquaint yourself with the Forum:

After you’ve logged your 2nd post on the Forum, you'll have access to the all the PDF Manuals on this site. There’s a few ways to do that:
  • From a desktop or laptop, go to "Quick Links" in the upper left corner of your screen. Hit that and a pull-down appears where you'll find "PDF Manuals".
  • You can also go to “Cub Info” in the upper toolbar, then hit “Rudi’s Manuals”. From there, you can access a variety of information.
  • If you're using a phone, go to the "Links Directory" (second category down the main page). Once in "Links Directory" , scroll down to the second section "Tractor Parts & Manuals" and you'll find them there.

You'll be able to download an Owner's Manual and any service manuals that interest you. Implement Manuals are also available, including cultivators.

We’d encourage you to take the Safety Test located in the Safety Forum: http://farmallcub.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=68084

Again, I may have this wrong, but the two pictures you posted were of the Cub you sold after your dad passed. That's how I'm taking it, so thanks for sharing those pics.

Remember:
  • Pictures are limited to 500 KB file size. Use an image reducer app or program to downsize pics.
  • When you have a specific question, start a new thread in the appropriate sub-forum.
  • Before posting, use the Preview button before hitting Submit--it'll show you exactly what your post will look like, including pictures.
  • When adding your comments to a thread, be sure to look at the date of the last poster. If it’s more than a 6 months old, the posters are probably not going to see it. Consider starting a new thread.

Glad you joined us.

Thank you for the welcome back fellows.
Glen and Stanton, you are both correct. The pictured Cub is the one I used to have but had to sell after my parents passed and I sold their farm. I would like to find another one and use it on my farm.

Stanton, thank you for all the useful information you have provided, especially the PDf manual information. I hope those two photographs aren't too big.

As I go along, I will also post photographs of some of the Cub Cadet and IH garden tractors we had and the other Farmall tractors we had. The only Farmall we had that I don't have a picture of was the Super C. I was always too busy working on something on it to be taking a picture of it. It didn't last long on the farm as it never pulled it's weight. I think there were just as many John Deere as there were Farmall tractors. I learned about both. I'm looking forward to re-learning forgotten lessons here.

I could not say tractor when I was 2 years old so I called it Err Err.

I loved this tractor then and I still love it now.
