New Memeber Cub 154 Rockford IL

Postby ThomasWManson » Thu Jun 27, 2019 7:06 am

Hello Cub club! I just brought home a 154 s/n 028110, that should be '72/'73 vintage? She has a clutch problem so I started digging into it yesterday. The whole clutch assy would rock back and forth on the splines quite badly so I ordered a clutch disk from HamiltonBob yesterday. I have no experience on these so everything is new to me. The driveshaft was connected to the flywheel flange with a pair of tension pins, a small one inside a large one. That seemed odd to me, like maybe not factory? Once I got them out I was able to rotate the driveshaft back-n-forth until it loosened up then I slid it into the flywheel. I had already remove the throw-out bearing carrier and that clever clutch release/tranny brake mechanism. That is pretty genius! Not sure how to readjust once I put her back together. Once the driveshaft was clear I thought I could just pull the clutch assy out. Not so, it appears to be hung up on the tranny. I did notice that the driveshaft had a lot of side-to-side play. It looks like there is a bushing in the tranny side pressure plate, I wonder if that thing is mushroomed out and holding the clutch disk? The mosquitoes are so bad around here that they are making it difficult for me to work on the tractor. As soon as one of them finds me out there it signals it's buddies and they all come to eat. I have a propane fogger and that does not seem to take care of them, damn bugs. Whatever eats mosquitoes needs to eat more!

Thanks for the welcome Mike. I see your 75 has a name, LouAnn. I asked the guy that I bought mine from if it had a name, he said no, and I have not yet named her.

Dragonflies. My neighbor buys a bunch of them every year and releases them by the swamp.

This is so excellent and timely. Around here, standing water invites mosquitoes but it has to be different for the dragonflys . People need to get clue about that big bug flying by. It is ancient to B.C. and the Persians represented in all manners. Tiffany and others built items showing them. The Apache grand helicopters are akin.
It is flying critter which would definitely arouse a child, so they need to be taught that it is not a bee or wasp. It is on the hunt for bugs that would hurt them.
