My Current Collection

Postby grnspot » Fri Apr 26, 2019 5:03 pm

I've been collecting tractors for a while now, starting with JD two-cylinder workers; 1958-520 & 1958 720D (which I grew up on):
008.jpg

My current workers are a 1993 JD 755 & a 2004 JD 790 w/300 loader. Went through a phase of collecting JD garden tractors:

Then carts:

More recently, I found a tractor I'd wanted for 50 years, a 1953 JD 40 Standard:

Then came the 1980-2418 Power King:

Thanks guys!

I'm partial to small, uncommon tractors, would like to add an Allis Chalmers "G" someday!

Lowell, I would love to have a John Deere M, but a 40 would be great also. I wouldn't mind having a John Deere L or LA either.

Added to the collection yesterday, a 1948 Allis Chalmers "G":

Wasn't running when I bought it, a good battery & fresh gas w/Seafoam & it started & runs this morning. It does smoke some, but in part may be the Seafoam!

woot! you got your G! congrats, I always wanted one of those too. I have to say the JD 40 is one fine looking beast. I know so little about old JD models, can you educate us on the differences between that and the JD M model?

Indy, the biggest changes between the m and the 40 are the rear hitch, 40 has a 3 point, m has a hitch if it’s own that nothing else is compatible with. Also the front wheels are different. M front wheels use a cast center where the 40 are steel and bolt on a hub.

Nice collection. A man in my town has 2 MT's, 1 M and a 40 for sale. He also has a sweet Farmall A w/ single-bottom plow. Nice tractors but I think he has them priced too high. He did have a Fordson on iron but sold it. He also collects and sells Model A and Model T Fords, and orphan cars. (Sorry, not necessarily relevant.) Except that old cars, trucks and tractors seem to go together. :tractor:

anything or any kind of internal combustion engine and steam too is something I love, that twin maytag Urbish posted up was a joy to see running! we are lucky we can still find and make these old iron machines from the past run again. if I had money I might own acres of them!

grnspot I am jealous of your collection! I love the oddballs, the JD LA and the Allis G are very cool little tractors. I was surprised to see how large the farm king/economy is next to the loboy cub.

Besides the factory 3-pt, the JD 40 has flat footrests, adjustable seat (instead of the sliding steering shaft), lift control on the right side instead of between the knees. All making it more comfortable to operate!
