John,

I have a cut out on my 48 which as far as I can tell may be original. I think the cutouts are reliable in the 6 volt systems and see no reason to change

The issue is if you have a regulator in a 6 volt system.

Brillman carries an electronic cutout for $20 https://brillman.com/product/universal- ... out-relay/ and is another way to go.
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

I have one of the electronic cutouts similar to Brillmans on my H and very happy with it, but would like to put regulators on all my engines so I do not have to worry about forgetting to turn my charge rate down and boil a battery dry.

John I have to say I always leave it on low so I do not have to remember.
