What is the chance...
I just received my rebuild kit for my touch control. Was reading several of the older topics about rebuilds and some issues were cause by bad filters. I did not order a filter and now am having second thoughts about tearing into it without one. Anyone ever rebuilt one and found the filter was reusable?

Our ‘49 was reusable, the other one was not. It’s a 50/50 shot it’s good. You really won’t know until you open it up.

Hi,
Sometimes the strainer is good, sometimes the strainer has broken, or fallen apart from age.
You just have to look at it to see, or you could put in a new one if you prefer.
Below is a listing for a new strainer at TM Tractor. It says it is a genuine Case IH part.

You need the Cub parts manual pages for the Touch Control to rebuild it, it is handy to look at the pic. A 1948 Cub should have the part number of Touch Control block shown at the top of the pages, these pages cover all except the newer 360719R1 block.
It could have been changed to a 360719R1 block in the past, you didn't say which number it has.
Hopefully you bought the kit for the part number cast in the side of the Touch Control block.
Below are the pages from the Cub parts manual. The parts in the square and rectangle were only used on some Touch Controls, they do not all have those parts.

Re: What is the chance...
Reading threads from this forum I found that I needed the casting number, so hopefully I got the correct kit.

As for me, all of the TCs I've rebuilt (~5) have needed the screen replaced. Consequently, there is always a screen on the shelf waiting for the next rebuild and I anticipate my friend and I will be rebuilding his soon.

Re: What is the chance...
I usually order parts from TM Tractors, but I did purchase a strainer from Steiner's Tractor Parts, which was about half the cost. Several of us did a comparison between that one and a genuine IH Screen, and could see no real difference.
It's up to you which one you buy, but I WOULD assume you will need one. If you have any problems, feel free to ask. DO print off this HOW TO on Touch Control rebuild with some great photos...it's priceless!

Re: What is the chance...
If your TC has never been rebuilt before, the probability of it needing a new filter are pretty high.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
you are part of the problem!!!
