I've read some posts that say around .010, you might do a search as this has been discussed before. You might be able to find a good replacement head for less than the cost of resurfacing the one you have.

Probably should measure it with putty.

Can you post some pictures of the pitting? You'd be surprised how much .010" is off something like a block or head that will clean a lot off depending on how deep the pitting is. It may not take that much either.

I just wanted to clean it up some. Is .010 the most you can remove? So I guess .0050 on the head and .0050 on the block.
If you have a deep scratch also has anyone filled or addressed that in some manner? block or head?

I don't think anyone knows what your block and your head can have shaved. They weren't all the same and it may have been done before. Also, we don't know which head and pistons you have. You would be best off to put a ball of putty on each piston (at the highest point) and then put the head back on with the old gasket (if it survived the removal). Torque the head bolts, remove the spark plugs, and then slowly turn it over one cycle. Remove the head and measure the mashed putty thickness. The thinnest one minus ~5 thousandths is the most material that can be removed. (half that off the head, half off the block)
Anyone have a better idea?
