Like many people I use one of the compact grease guns to grease the throw out bearings. I prefer the nozzle mounted in the side fitting rather than the end because it allows me to grease the bearing when there is a mower or similar implement under it. I discovered today that not all the grease cartridges are the same size though when I tried to put an STP grease cartridge I bought at Autozone in my little gun I bought at Walmart a few years ago. It took quite a bit of pressure to get the cartridge in the gun, and the rim at the top was large enough the head would only screw on part way. It works ok, but I figure removing the empty cartridge is going to be a challenge.
I bought my current gun because I had trouble with the follower on the one I had sticking inside the cartridges and threw it away thinking the rubber on it had swelled up with prolonged exposure to the grease. Now I am thinking it was the difference in the sizes of the cartridges and guns.
