Do I need a lifting mechanism for a manual lift snow plow?

Yes either a manual lift or Touch Control.

Hi,
If you are talking about an IH front blade, below is the Cub 54 Blade owner's manual.
It has lots of info, and pics of the IH manual lift, to the left of the seat, and it shows a Touch Control some.
You don't use the hand lift, if you have Touch Control. :)
