Procrastinators club
We have not had enough snow in this area to need a blade for 3 or 4 years, even though I had put it and chains on every fall. So with the early and severely cold weather we have had this winter, I had not bothered to put on the front blade or chains either one. After looking at the weather guess for this week I went to the shed yesterday and dug out my torpedo heater for heat and put the blade and chains on. Better safe than sorry I guess. Sure hope I wasted the effort, the older I get the less willing I am to go out and blade a road in the cold and snow.

John,
If you did that solo, I would think you would want some snow to make the effort seem worthwhile.

John,
I am in agreement with you. I have blades on both my Cub and a Wheel Horse, and I'm hoping for no snow, and definitely no ice. Let the northern boys have the snow.

We've been watching Ohio and Pennsylvania get slammed over and over with snow storms while the great north of Michigan has received 3-4" two to three times followed up with a warm spell that melts it off.
Pretty good weather this year. Yes, some snow moving, but the piles are not stacking up like they usually do.

We got about 8" Saturday and yesterday. I heard the plow guy at 2:30 so I knew all was well and I let the Cub sleep. Had to edit my post. I was embarrassed of my spelling. Shame on me.

We're about 50 miles south of you and got at the most 3 inches. Hasn't been much this winter and warming spells have melted it off, ground was bare before this last batch. Vern

Re: Procrastinators club
John. Since you have that torpedo heater, you can procrastinate. The unheated barn here offers no such comfort to frozen fingers, and so, when those last fall days come on I now know that to be kind to the fingers it is time to change out the sicklebar and put on the snow plow. Not that I knew this through grand intellect; rather on the one winter I indeed procrastinated, my frozen fingers said "Nevermore." So it is a fall time ritual. Chains stay on here all year long. They don't hurt the garden nor the field and offer that extra grip when it is needed.
A bit of small stuff plowing this morning. 3" of snow drenched in rain and soggy was starting to set up with dropping temperatures, so the Cub nudged the crusty mess off the drive and walkways, and I followed that with a sprinkling of wood ashes. And a note to you. Wasn't there a saying? "Damn the torpedoes, fall snow plow on and full speed ahead?"

I plowed snow here in Southern Kentucky for the first time 2 weeks ago. It did really well I was surprised. The chains make all the difference in the world. It was around 12 degrees and my cub was in the barn and started on the first pull of the crank and didn't die.

Re: Procrastinators club
It wasn't supposed to snow here according to the forecast, but late yesterday afternoon, it got cold quickly, wind kicked up and just looking at the clouds, it looked like something frozen was going to fall out of the sky (what we called a "blue norther" when I was a kid in E. Texas). So, I cleared off all the tools and parts that I had on the Cub while working on it and got it ready just in case. It snowed pretty good after dark, but the ground was too warm for it to stick, so I didn't get to play in the snow this morning.

Re: Procrastinators club
Got about 4 inches yesterday. Unforunately freezing rain came in a couple hours after I plowed (with the 4Runner) so all is ice this morning. Just went out and salted the driveway and am hoping the sun that's out right now will melt it clear.

I used to look forward to a big snow, I enjoyed the challenge. I will be 70 in a couple of months though and now a snow is just a pain. Literally.J3 Driver wrote:You all aren’t like my son. He prays for the stuff.

Hey John, I'm going to be 77 in March - doing things doesn't get any easier as you move on down the road. It's funny how things get heavier the older you get.

Re: Procrastinators club
The first storm of the season is great fun....maybe the second....but after that it is a pain. Of course last year before the 1st cub I was grumbling about having to snow blow and before that having to shovel. Compared to that, I have it easy with the versatile cub and the SC beast. I suppose a small measure of gratitude is warranted.....
