farmall cub Driveshaft

Postby liquid plumber » Tue Jan 30, 2018 11:55 am

Hello everyone,
Chris milow here from Minnesota ( liquid Plumber) I have a question about driveshaft from clutch to tranney . split my 56 cub last weekend at engine / torque tube. to fix rear seal and was wondering how loose the shaft normally is to tranney. seems like I can wiggle it pretty good and when I turn it it seems that the shaft is bent slightly. is that possible or is it just a optical illuision due to looking down the torque tube while spinning.
any help is good help and hope this don"t seem like a dumb question
Thanks , Chris

Well supposed to wiggle some? Probably not. 2 tractors j have split wiggled and bearings are ok. Keep in mind that 1/32 inch of wiggle at the tranny can turn into half inch at the end of the shaft.

I don't think they made the shafts very "true" except for the machining on the ends. Why that is I don't know. Low performance and low rpm probably don't require such precision is my guess.

Some wiggle and a small wobble are normal. That is a long shaft for the size, and it has a little play. If the transmission does not have baring noise, or leaking oil out the fornt seal I would not worry about it. That is, so long as you moved it straight apart, and did not let the tranny drop down and bend it while separating.
If you are not part of the solution,
you are part of the problem!!!
