Landreo wrote:Evapo Rust is a true rust remover. I use it all the time. I have parts from a 1920s adding maching soaking in a tub of evapo rust right now. I have used it to clean iron dust off old antique radio variable capacitors with no damage to the aluminum plates or the brass shaft. Derusted old micrometers and other tools. I have used it many times to free rusted and stuck engines with only one failure out of maybe 20 blocks. That failure required my 20 ton press to get the piston out ( piston and block survived and is back in the now running engine). Evapo rust does not affect the iron, just the rust. It works great.

It does not remove grease so I would still clean the block with washing soda or soapy water prior to using evapo rust so the evapo rust has good contact with the rust itself.

The disadvantage of evapo rust....$22 a gallon.

That's cheaper than removal of a stuck bolt, if it has to go to a machine shop. (Don't ask why I know that)
Thanks for your response. I'll try it on my next stuck piston, too!

I know I bardered for a magnetic base drill press for something.

I’d do bosshogs process and go tighter then looser to free them bolts up.
I'm technically misunderstood at times i guess its been this way my whole life so why should it change now.

I've had about 10 that came out, without breaking. The 2 with broken bolts, made up for the previous luck. That's 10 heads off, not 10 bolts, that I mentioned. 2 broken bolts, out of 10 engines, still gets your attention!

Broken bolts been there many times. I had the big bolt on the seat bracket break three sockets. I was using heat too, finally 2,000 degrees of liquid wrench cut it off. Then ground it smooth then redrilled it.

My 55 Willy’s number 1 broke the center head bolt. Drilled it out. They over heated the engine so bad it seized. I had to heat the cylinders with a torch and use a sledge hammer to remove the pistons.

My point is I never plan on a job going easy. My torch tanks are always filled.

I don't expect a job to be easy, just trying to make it easier, Bill.
