Water leaking from my lower radiator

Postby Command52 » Sat Jan 06, 2018 2:24 pm

I started putting coolant in my radiator and it run out all over the floor. I got looking and found a hole it the center of the bottom of the radiator lower tank casting, I believe it to be a drain hole but I have looked through the manuals and even my parts books and the only thing I found was a 3/8 pipe plug that may go there, My hole appears to take a 1/2 in bolt but I did not want to force - What should go there and what thread is it Thanks

The hole for a 3/8 pipe plug is approximately the size of a 1/2 inch bolt, since the 3/8 is the inside diameter of a pipe, not the outside. The threads are different between pipe and bolts though. One of my cubs had the threads damaged from someone doing a sloppy job of drilling out a stuck plug, and I used a short 3/8 nipple that I coated the threads with JB Weld where they screwed into the casting, then I put a cap on the nipple.

you are part of the problem!!!

I had a bad threads on the drain plug and used a 1/2 compression tubing x 1/2 MNPT adapter. Screwed the tubing side into the housing with sealer and 1/2 cap on the exposed threads. What ever will work!!
