Welcome to the Forum. You should find all the information that you need in the manuals available at the Quick Links tab, top left corner of this page. There's a service manual on engine rebuilds.

Hi,
Below is the Cub service manual, GSS-1411, if you didn't find it. The engine is in section 1, I would read it if you are rebuilding a Cub engine.

Re: engine rebuild specs
Use the cub rebuild manual numbers as best you can, but if you are experienced at building engines, you can take a little liberty here and there. I rescued the 65 from the locked up pile. Along the way i found wrist pins that were 0.001 outside the wear limit. I reused them and get a slight cold wrist pin knock. The number 4 cylinder was pitted from rust from a leaky head gasket. Honed and reringed...its still doing fine 5 years later. Oil consumption is less than a quart a season...
The tolerances and wear limits are very tight....and conservative....

Re: engine rebuild specs
thanks everyone. i just bought the tractor and it had a cracked head, was just going to do a head gasket and replace some leaking gaskets. the engine ran great before tear down. when i removed the head i noticed some oil sitting on number 2 piston and the cylinder walls had no cross hatching left. so i decided to do a ring job and new rod bearings ( because i nicked one removing the pistons) now im going through and measuring everything to make sure its in spec before i reassemble the engine

Re: engine rebuild specs
Hi,
The head bolts go through into the water jacket, and need sealer on the threads to prevent leaking.
Permatex Aviation Form A Gasket works good. It is a non hardening liquid. It comes in a small can with a brush built on under the cap. If you buy one, stir it well before using it, it settles sitting. They have it at NAPA here in the west USA.
