L54-A Restore
Just about done restoring my L54-A grader/plow and of course I made a video to show you. Most difficult decision was whether or not I should paint the extension bar IH Blue or IH Red? Tell me what you think... Also, I used IH Red from 3 different sources, and I bet no one can tell which pieces received the different IH Red paint! -Tom

Re: L54-A Restore
Very nice job. I always think that one should re-paint items whatever the original color was, regardless of the color of your tractor color. I have a Farmall Red tractor, a McCormick Blue 193 plow, an Oliver Green disk, and an International Yellow sickle mower. It makes for a bright barn collection!
Can't wait to see your final product!

Re: L54-A Restore
Nice job chronicling your restore of the L54-A blade. Thanks for sharing it.
As to choice of color, as we've always encouraged folks here, it's your project, paint it however you'd like.

Re: L54-A Restore
You have misidentified the blade. It is either a Cub-54 or Cub-54A, not an L-54. There was no L-54A.

Re: L54-A Restore
Sorry Jim, but you are mistaken. I had looked up parts for the blade on Messicks and they list it as a CASE IH L-54 CUB LEVELING AND GRADER BLADE (1/58-12/73). I included the "A" as I know that the CUB designation has the "A". see - http://www.messicks.com/cas/64145 ...

Re: L54-A Restore
Think I’d trust Jim’s word before Messick’s.
There was a L-54 blade for a loboy, if I’m not mistaken

Before you get too adamant about Jim being mistaken, you might want to study this comparison on TM Tractor Parts website.

Re: L54-A Restore
Once the Lo-Boy blades came out the two styles were Cub-54A and L-54. At least that was what the operators manual referred to.

Re: L54-A Restore
I will have to stick to title of this topic for the identification of this blade as I have components from both the L-54 and the 54-A making up the assembly. Therefore this is a true L54-A Restore.

Just as anyone is entitled to paint their Cub any color they wish, you are entitled to call your restore whatever you want. However, as the others have said, in reality, there were no L54-A graders. They are either an L54 or a 54-A
TM has a page showing the difference in parts. http://www.tmtractor.com/tm-tractor/gim ... b1_001.htm
There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Nice job on the restore...I can see it took a lot of time and attention and you will end up with a really nice rig that is effective and preserved...whatever the model.
