I picked up a touch control system to put on my '48 cub with no lift of any kind.
The two mounting bolts captured in the touch control are 1/2" but the holes in my clutch housing are 7/16". Since the touch control installation manual specifies the mounting bolts as 1/2" it appears the holes on the tractor are under sized.
Did IH increase the mounting hole size at some point?
I'm trying to decide how to mount it. It seems the proper course would be to enlarge the holes on the tractor rather than use smaller fasteners.
Anyone else ever run into this situation?
Advice please.

Re: Installing touch control on a '48 Cub
It is unclear what you are asking about. The pump is bolted to the engine block with two 5/16" cap screws. The main Touch-Control cylinder block is bolted to the bell housing with four 1/2" cap screws. Nothing bolts to the transmission housing unless you are also attaching the rear rockshaft which is held by three 1/2" cap screws.
Be aware that all the fasteners I mentioned go into threaded holes. If you are asking about the 1/2" holes in the bell housing, the internal diameter of the threads as about 7/16" You may need to run a tap in to clean the threads. The holes should still have corks in them if they have never been used.

Jim is right, I recently added hydraulics to an early 1947 and they were all 1/2” threaded.

Re: Installing touch control on a '48 Cub
I'm sorry, it is the bell housing, I edited my original post. For some reason mine has four 7/16" holes plus the relief holes for the bolts on the cylinder block.
I guess maybe I have to look at it more closely. Perhaps there is enough paint built up it seems like 7/16.
Either way, I'll need a 1/2 tap.

If it never had a touch control, those holes would have originally corks in them. There may still be pieces of cork in there.

There may be in three of them. I assumed it was just dirt that had been painted over. The fourth though I could start a 7/16 bolt into so I presumed that was what they were.
I believe the previous owner brush painted that part of the tractor. I suppose it's possible enough paint got built up a 1/2 won't go but a 7/16 will go in a few threads.
Across the street from my business is a machine shop, the guy has loaf pans full of taps in various condition. Tomorrow I'll borrow one of his ratty 1/2 taps and see what it'll do in the hole that shows some thread.

Re: Installing touch control on a '48 Cub
1/2” coarse thread is 13 threads per inch and 7/16” is 14. It’s close enough it would go in a few threads but that’s it.

Are touch control units available from suppliers Reconditioned? In Ontario it seems I would have to buy a parts cub with hopes for a good one Thanks

Re: Installing touch control on a '48 Cub
I'm not aware of anyone who sells rebuilt TC's. You'd probably have to buy one from a parted tractor and rebuild it if it wasn't sold as working. Getting it to you might be costly due to weight.

Re: Installing touch control on a '48 Cub
You guys were right - 1/2 13.
Two of the holes had cork and a good ridge of paint. Two just dirt and paint. Dug out the crud, blew debris away and ran a 1/2 NC tap down them.
Thanks for the help!

Re: Installing touch control on a '48 Cub
Touch control is on. Works great.
Looks like I should have checked the valve clearance first. I'm not sure if I'll have to remove the fluid lines but it sure would have been easier to get in there without them on.

Re: Installing touch control on a '48 Cub
I’v seen other guys adjust the valves without removing the hydraulic lines. You can usually work the valve cover out from behind them with a little wiggling. “Not you, the valve cover” haha!
