Either will work well. If you have a good 6 volt coil, the Chrysler ballast resister is much cheaper than a 12 volt coil with internal resistor.

IMHO I would choose a 12v coil with internal resistor. Less problems long term as the external resistor has a greater opportunity to give problems by being exposed to weather, moisture, etc. Plus my experience is I've had more trouble free results by doing it this way.

I agree with internal resistance coil, external resistors run extremely hot and I have had failures because of heat, no failures with internal resistance.

When I had to buy a new 12v coil a few weeks ago, I went internal resistor and stashed the old ballast resistor just in case it's ever needed again.
