My recommendation would be to keep it on then! Might get a whole new view on life without it!

A cut off wheel on a grinder and then a flap disk that thing would be adjusting in no time and you couldn't even tell it's been welded on :D

I did some work to the cub yesterday, after I power washed it it refused to run, ( yup, I am that guy ) It had what was apparently a momentary off switch for a kill switch. I used a jumper wire to the coil and it ran. I removed the momentarily off switch and joined the wires and it worked with the main switch, all good....BUT The alternator belt was broken and it was running on battery power. When I replaced the alternator belt (thank you Barnyard for the youtube vid I watched on this procedure! ) the tractor was not shutting off with the main switch. I am guessing now the alternator was providing the hots, a quick bat cable removal confirmed this. I noticed a different sound coming from the alternator when the main switch was turned off. I also noticed the starter would not engage when the main switch was in the off position.. I dont recall if this was the case before, I assume it was. So a dig through the junk gave me a toggle switch I installed i place of the defunct momentarily off switch had me now able to turn the thing OFF. :{_}: The amp gauge seems to show some minimal charging going on. I reinstalled the bug eyes and will wire them today if I get to it and see if I can create more draw and have the amp meter show a bit more effort on the part of the alternator. :tractor:

I am afraid I would find things under those welds I don't want to find! While I was once a machinist and can do a lot I do not have your welding skills Sir and am concerned I might make it worse than it is now ;) Right now I can use it and turning out the front wheels will give me enough stance for the hills around here, turning out the rears gave me a huge difference in width. I have tipped a few things over, my JD 790 more than once and a hug antique Lull forklift. I will try to refrain from such activities at my older age :P

I suppose some day if I was able to replace or repair enough things on it I might replace them with a stock sized headlight but as she is now this tractor is something to do work with. I admit I have developed a real affinity for the wee beastie. The capability of a cub rated at 9hp boggles th mind, (new methods of measuring HP not withstanding )
I am considering painting the thing OD green and stenciling a US Cub on the hood :P I tried to secure a sickle mower but the poster never responded. I think a flail mower would be awesome too but I bale hay( grass ) so a sickle mower is something I might get a lot of use out of. Honestly the best thing about this tractor is how it runs. I could not be more pleased with the engine, the bolts indicate it has been split and work has been done, how much I don't know. until it just got cold recently you could start the thing with no choke and the smallest pull on the starter rod, it just purred to life. Now it needs a lil choke to help her breath fire.

you might have noticed the belly mower "lite" , it has no skirt on it anywhere and is missing a blade I found out, I swear it had three when I brought it home

Too bad you're so far away. I know where there is a C22 sickle mower that's ready to bolt on an go.
It's always been garage stored and just colllecting dust.
Why is there never enough time to do the job right, but always enough time to do it over. :?:

OK I will be the first one to admit that give me a rattlecan or a spraybomb and I am a fairly dangerous man  so I am out wasting a spraybomb of red paint on the old cub and I feel positively stupid. I knew it was a waste of a good can of paint but I did it anyways...(wanted to see it with some red on it ) I see immediately that I will sand it down and do it some better in the future. one thing that showed up was some teethmarks on the tank. YES! I said TEETHMARKS! I know they had to be teethmarks because there is simply nothing with claws that strong! I did not get good pics of them and I am sorry for that. If I had to describe them you would think something raccoon sized had clawed the tank down to bare metal! I assume it was a horse using his teeth. anyways they are gone now and a coat of rusty metal primer is on most of the hood n tank. I am leaning towards a OD green with some army type lettering and some pinup decals on each side :P Yup I'm crazy but its my tractor and I'll paint if I want to, paint if I want to.... :tractor:

(NO, the world does not need another pink Farmall! )

Ok , rattlecans can be put to good use sometimes.... 8)

Cubby gets a new home. I moved some more hay out of a bay in the lean-to and raked it out n added some fresh limestone and Cubby now has a new parking space

OK OK so its not OD green... but it might be tomorrow who knows :P :tractor:
I like it red, for now red it will be. if I get enough parts to make it nice enough who knows, maybe even a set of decals

from this, to this in a few days here n there puttin around, restored? not even close! but a bit more fun to drive? you betcha! Long way to go yet to complete what I call just a cleanup. I thought about naming him Triple R, (rattlecan Red RUNS) uhm... runs as in the engine "runs" well *cough* dont look too close at the paint for now :P

I will be the first one to admit it needs much much more, but I dont have the torch gas to weld the cracks in the hood right now nor the skill to use the MIG or stick welders on the thin metal. One day I will do it up right if all the parts come together but for now my ole cub is looking better and I will enjoy it even if I m just puttin around the yard pulling a hay trailer around or the lil wood trailer. I find it easier to use for moving trailers than the JD gator and loads more fun! I even moved the log splitter with it a few days ago. I am looking for excuses to start it and make it work!
( I honestly think the tractor likes it more too! :P )

I hope you are enjoying my journey with this lil collection of parts from this year n that. It will never be original but it will always be nostalgic for me and its giving me back way more than I will ever put into it. The wife says she will start calling me Oliver if she hears me singin Green Acres one more time as I am driving around the place on it
