Gas Cap with Guage
Hello All!
Does anyone know where i could get a gas cap with a fuel guage built right in it? I would love to have one because I used to check my gas with what ever light source I had handy but had a little trouble just recently. Will one from an old cub cadet riding mower work?
Thanks
John

John, I have seen them but it's been a while. The ones from a cub cadet will not work. Different size and they are threaded.

If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

I have not seen one for a cub. I picked one up on E-pay for a 350u.It was it pretty rough shape. It fits that gas tank. The parts manual mentions them for the 350u. Nowhere do they mention them for the cub in the parts manual. Did they make them for the cub? That would be nice to have .

thanks guys, i guess i will have to try to keep searching or try to make one someday. carl, i use a large paint stick now to gage my gas when its in my barn but i still have to bring out my lighter or flash light in the dark. i was also told by email today by a someone who looks at this site to look at old snowmobile gas caps. i have only ridden a snowmobile once so i dont know if this is a possibility. any of you guys might know?

Cub tank is approx. 7 inches deep, don't know if snowmobil tanks are that deep, but any made in the last 30 or 40years would have screw on caps.
to use the paint paddle in the dark, stick it in tnak and then hold lighter uner it. how muc of the stick bursts into flames will indicate how full the tank is.

I have a sawed off dowel that I stick it in the tank. The discolored area indicates the amount of fuel remaining in the tank. I hadn't thought about using the match to check the fuel depth in the dark. I usually just back the tractor out of the shed.
The shed/shop is an old hog barn. Previous owners insulated by putting chicken wire across the joists then filling the joists with straw. I'll bet using a match to check the fuel level would work quite well in my shop.
About a month after my son purchased the property (shop location) the sherriff was looking for the previous owner with a warrant indicating insurance fraud. Seems the previous owner, for 6 years, didn't have insurance on the property. Previous owner purchases fire insurance and shortly there after the house burns under unusual circumstances.
Just thinking. Sure could use a bigger shop.

I know that something exists, as my uncle had one on his '49 cub, it's still there but no longer functional. I'm quite sure it wasn't original, but it had a black plastic rim, a silver centre, and a black zone with a red "low" zone. It also had the IH logo on it, I believe dead centre. It was always frosted and rusted and nearly impossible to read anyway. The "clean stick" method seems to be the time honored way to check the tanks on the farmalls if it is dark, or you are too short.
The funny thing about gasoline is that it never explodes when you are nervous about it, but the minute you let your guard down......Boom. I've filled countless tanks with lit cigarettes in my mouth, with no problem , and yet I've had a lawnmower burst into flame from filling it when it was just a little warm . Neither one is intelligent or recommended, but it shows the fickle nature of the substance.

I was thinking of something close to this:
Gas Cap with Gauge, Arctic Cat, Polaris,Ski Doo 7 1/2"
I am confident (hoping really) I will find something that will fit!

I asked the seller about the neck size and got this reply
"This cap with gauge is for steel tanks, that use 1/4 turn to lock on. The inside measurement of the cap is 2 9/32 inches..1/32 inch larger than 2 1/4 inches, It is designed to fit on a 2 1/4 inch neck"
Two things to remeber, due to height of tank, it will be dificult for most people to read form the ground, and most of those gauges cloud over to the point of being hard to read in 2 or 3 years.
