FWIW, you can get 2# of Cow Tales (with free shipping if an Amazon Prime member) for under $13, or about what it costs to have Steiner ship you a single paper gasket :hattip:

I haven’t found Steiner to be any worse on shipping than anyone else. If you’re on their email list they offer some decent discounts from time to time.

I ordered an oil pump gasket for a C a while back from a dealer and shipping was more than the cost of the gasket. But, I had to have it.

FWIW I ran a little test this weekend....needed a breaker point cover and a brake return spring for the Cub. I decided to order from Steiner or TM because there's no way I will have time to get to a caseIH dealer this week. Steiner's shipping was indeed a good bit higher (USPS Priority Mail vs. UPS Ground) but the prices of the parts was cheaper--the breaker cover was less than half of TM's price and the spring was a dollar and change cheaper.
They were running a Veteran's Day sale so that helped offset the increased shipping cost as well. (And plus I get Cow Tails!) Moral of the story is it pays to shop around!

I've never had bad service from Steiner, but TM is truly second-to-none when it comes to customer service. I like to "spread it around" and buy from them whenever I can....

One point that should be noted is that TM is a site sponsor for farmallcub.com This is a valuable site to have for us Cub owners. I would hate to see this site be lost for good because of not enough support from our great sponsors and the people that support them. Please support our site sponsors when possible.

the shipping between Steiner and TM has always been pretty substantial in my experience. That is why I don't order much from Steiner.

Living in a rural area, the auto parts stores stock common parts for tractors. The local auto parts stores are open 12 hours a day, one open until 2 PM on Sundays. Anything not in stock, if ordered, will arrive the next day.

Determining the least expensive and fastest method of obtaining the need parts is the major consideration. US Gov Federal tax deduction rate is (last I checked) 55 cents a mile for businesses. You have to add the mileage into your purchase consideration.
I have an excuse. CRS.

Doubtful that would ever happen.

Again I like TM, but there is some stuff they don't have, or have quit stocking.

I think the answer is it depends on what you are looking for and what is driving your decision - price - originality - availability - tech support.

I purchase most items from TM but as Super A says they do not have everything. What they do have I find to be a better fit and function. If they do not have a good aftermarket part they sell the OEM. Ron is also a good source for info if needed. I also discovered that Ron has more parts both new and used than what is on his site. When I am looking for a part I call or email him.

The NAPA stores in my area are not what they use to be and the chain auto stores are ok for oil and additives but not tractor parts. I did purchase a correct U1 battery at one. I also just got 6 v and 12 batteries from a factory Interstate Battery store near my house. Both great fits in the cub battery box.

I do buy from Steiner on occasion but I have had a few bad experiences ( any one want a 6-volt starter I could not send back because it did not fit) with them and find their tech support poor

I like Brillman for electrical. Again John is a good source for info if needed

I have had good luck with original used parts from JP, eBay, forum members, craiglist and lately facebook marketplace. I have limited but positive experience with Hamilton Bob

Messicks - is also very good for parts especially mower parts
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

Jason dufour from Dufour Tractor Parts. Great guy to do business with and good prices. And I also like doing business with an individual than a corporation. Personal preference.

He has lots of used parts, and is honest about condition. He also sells Steiner's (new) parts, without adding onto prices. Not sure what he charges for shipping, since I've simply stopped in a few times on my way through Nashvile, NC.

Absolutely agree! TM Tractor is an awesome source, good prices, quality items, and nice folks! I always use them first. If they don't have the part I need, then I go hunting, but always try them first.

I think his shipping is more based on the size of the box. Odd size or long boxes tend to cost more than a smaller one even if slightly heavier. I typically try to make a good size order get more bang for my buck on shipping. He will box it up best he can to help ya on shipping.
