I use a SHCS with the same cup point and a lock nut like Glen suggests, it really does help keep it tight.

Glen, have you had the bar actually come out? It definitely comes loose but would think the pull backwards would still keep it in the socket if it did? I hate to ask a dumb question but you do put the bar in from the left side and not the right?

Not saying it cant happen , just that I've never seen it when mine has come loose.

Then the mowers were new, they were shipped with a setscrew for that location.

Hi,
Yes, it was on my friend's Cub, with Cub 22 mower, he had a bolt at the square hole, I think, and it was loose a little, and the bar came out. It was when the mower was raised, and the tractor was making a turn. Probably the outer end of the cutter bar went ahead, and the square bar slid out of the hole.
Luckily it got stopped before the round bar went back under the Cub and got bent.
Yes, it was in the left side of the square hole.

Excellent advice. I will remember that when I take the mower out for it's first work! Thanks!

Hi,
Below is a page from the Cub 22 mower owner's manual showing what Jim said above. It says use a setscrew in paragraph 2. :)
