I've always used NAPA filters that include the gaskets, but every time I change out a filter I look at the old gasket and think it is a shame to throw away a gasket that still looks like new. That being said I finally went to the local TSC to see if I could score a good deal and would reuse the old gasket when I used a Fram. They didn't have any for a Cub, but I did pick up 3 @ $0.69 each that fit my green Kawasaki powered grass cutter and also my Kawasaki powered golf cart. :{_}:

I'm going to try to use the old gasket and I'll let you know how it works out.

I've done that many times with no leaks.

I stopped in at TSC today and they had one (1) C235 on the shelf. For 79 cents it is now mine! Wish they had had more.
Thanks Ricky

I was surprised to find out that so far, at least two of my local TSCs carried tractor filters. Thought I knew the stores pretty well. So far I've scored four C235's, but at $2.99 each not the 79 or 99 cents the rest of you guys seem to be coming across.

The C235 has been the only oil filter readily (more or less) found on a shelf in my area. And that was at TSC. Other places had to order in a Cub oil filter. So it has been convenient to stop in at TSC now and then (as in right after an oil / filter change) to pick up a new filter to have on my shelf in the barn shop. Yesterday, between this thread on the sale, a 10% discount promo in the mailbox, a recent oil / filter change, and a need for other things in a nearby town, I picked up, as others have, the few remaining C235s (2 for me). $2.99 less 10%. Sure hope TSC continues to carry them...that "clearance" sticker has me wondering.

I've been reusing the same old black rubber gasket that came with the Cub when I bought it some 20+ years ago. I change oil / filter twice a year: once after a summer of garden prep work and cutting fields; then in the spring after a winter of snow plowing. No leaks around that long distance can do gasket.

So far, Paul and Ringo have arrived. John and George were supposed to follow ages ago, but apparently have gone awol. Long story.

I picked up the last filter at my local TSC last week and thought that was that. I was hoping to stock up, but one filter at $0.79 is still good.
Imagine my surprise when I had occasion to stop by the same store yesterday and discovered that two more filters had appeared!

Was near a TSC today and thought why not check. Glad I did. Two C235's for 79 cents each, two C135's for the H 69 cents each, a TG4967 for the Cub Cadet for 69 cents and the wallet buster, a C159 for my brother's Case VAC a whopping dollar thirty nine! I spent more for supper at White Castle than I did for the six filters.

My TSC has them listed for $7.49, 50 cents off the original price. But, this was using TSC's website, I haven't been into the local store recently.

Went to my TSC store last week and found nearly empty shelves for Fram oil filters. May try again this weekend just in case more came in.

My original gasket got all squeezed out by whoever put it in. I'm surprised it wasn't leaking. Must have been all that thick red paint on everything.

So, I measured the gasket surface on the oil filter cover last night and I believe a -232 o-ring would work quite well. For the filter through bolt if the original copper gaskets is missing or toast, the -112 size for the hydraulic pump shaft seal should work just fine if not over tightened. I tend to like o-rings as they can usually be found locally easier and cheaper than some gaskets.
