New fuel bowl/shutoff valve hard to turn open and closed.

Postby J3 Driver » Tue Oct 24, 2017 6:35 pm

Last week I put a new fuel shutoff on the cub as my old one was leaking. I got the case one part number 61782C91. Looks good and operates well but is extremely hard to turn open and closed. Is there any adjustments to make it easier or a fuel safe lube that’s will make it easier to open and close. Right now I need to get out the pliers to get it closed the whole way.

Thanks in advance.

Keith.

You can slightly loosen the nut closest to the lever. Too much will create a leak though. I took some brass tubing and removed part of one side to allow it to slide on and make a "t" handle.

Hi,
There was a 6 sided nut at the base of the shutoff valve handle on the original strainers, it has a packing inside to prevent gas from leaking. Tightening the nut too much makes the handle hard to turn. It has to be tightened the right amount. Try loosening the nut slightly, the handle should be easy to turn, and not leak gas at the base.

Looks like Bob was a few minutes faster than me. :)

Here are a couple home made tools that make it easier to turn the valve.

Upon a little more in-depth investigation turns out the shut off shaft in the new on was bent. Half a turn very easy. Next half need pliers. Went to day and exchanged it for another new one they moved like butter.

I should have checked it before I installed it.
