Rear mount C3 mower deck?

Postby sgraber » Tue Oct 24, 2017 3:41 pm

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever attempted to rear-mount their C3 mower deck? I realize I'll need to fabricate a different pulley mounting bracket and get a different length drive belt. I'm more curious to know if anyone's ever done it. The C3 mower deck is just too big to easily get on and off the Cub by sliding it under the tractor. I've also thought about fabricating some drive-over ramps for it, but I think rear-mounting might be easier.

:thanx:

I have a C3 and have not done the rear mount. I also have a kub klipper belly mower. That design breaks the angle pieces going to the rear and uses a bolted connection making it much easier to get the deck out the side.

I have been thinking of cutting the C3 rear supports to be like the Kub Klipper. I think that would be an easier project than coming up with a rear mount.

I have a Woods 59 c3 that I drive on and off of. Nothing fancy, just a cpl 3' 2x6s front and back. The hard part is stabilising the deck so it doesn't slide. A lot easier than all the fabrication you're looking at.

Any chance you could take a couple photos on how you rigged it up as a rear mount?

I guess I should mention that my C3 came without the mule drive so I will be doing fabrication either way.

I've wondered about this how do you place the boards? Also do you support the deck where you drive over? I have an IH3160 (same as C3) deck and have thought that would be an easy way to get it on and off as opposed to removing and re-attaching the arms.

I have not. ...I have built a tag along deck for my Cub which works great. One problem with running a belt driven belly mower behind a Cub is the blades will run backwards with traditional belt routing. A PTO driven deck behind a Cub would run the right direction but that requires a pretty hard to find/make PTO shaft and a right angle drive fabricated onto the deck.

Here's what I did. The tag along runs a 13hp vertical shaft motor with a hand operated "clutch" to engage the blades. Another version I built uses an electric PTO. The offset arrangement gives a nice wide cut and the Cub does a nice job of running and pulling the two decks.

Woods made a 59" mower for the numbered loboy (model RM59LB) that goes on the rear 3-pt hitch. Drives from the pto via a shaft (no belt). This setup is similar to what you are describing for the Cub, just requires the Cub to have a 3-pt hitch or some modification to the rear lift. You can see the parts diagram on the Woods site.

When I drive it on I stabilize the deck with a 4x4 centered on the frame and butted against the wall. Then just lay a 3' 2x6 up the back and off the front in line with the spindles on each side. My spindles have metal housings over them. Took a couple tries, there is a learning curve.
Good luck. Like I said hardest part is stabilizing the deck so it doesn't move.

Thanks I have the metal guards on mine too. I'll look at doing this, may still do it the old way so I don't mess anything up but I'll definitely consider this. If you could post a picture I'd appreciate.

I'll try, I'll be removing the deck soon, but haven't been too successful in posting pics in the past. Keep watch hopefully will have something for you soon.

Took my deck off today.
Just make sure everything is disconnected, place a couple 2x6 about 3' long behind the front wheels, secure the base so it doesn't move then slowly reverse.
