Different rear cub light.

I have a couple of older cubs with this light on them, was this an option for cubs?and are they rare?

I have six or eight of them. I don't know if they are rare or not, but you don't see many of them.

Below is a page from the Cub parts manual showing the style of rear light you have. They were an option, evidently. :)
