New guy question, blade
Hello,
My father has had a Farmall cub for over 50 years. I am not sure of the year of the cub, so I guess I need to check out the serial number.
But the reason for my post is that I came across a possible blade that is supposed to be able to be positioned as a front snow plow and also as an under-belly grader.
My questions:
Will this work with a tractor that does not have hydraulics? (I am not sure if the bracketry is different).
If so, does anyone have a photo or something that shows the parts that are supposed to be there?
The cub is red, screen grille.
Thanks,

Re: New guy question, blade
Yes it will work as long as you have the all the manual lift pieces including the front rockshaft. There were three different styles. Here some links to different styles of the blade set up.

I am over in Harrison Ohio about an hour away from you. We are having a Cub Fest October 20 and 21. You might want to stop in and ask question.

There are two ways to get enough Cubs. One is to continue to accumulate more and more. The other is to desire less.

Re: New guy question, blade
Jamesan, Welcome to the Forum. Improvements were made from the first to third blade that Barnyard has links to. The 54A (latest) is easy to identify as it has two springs in the front, the 54 only has the lower one. When you go to look at it, you might want to print off some pictures so you can make sure all the parts are there.

Re: New guy question, blade
If I remember correctly, there's actually a bit of a problem connecting it to the manual lift rockshaft, is there not? Not saying it can't be done, but not a direct fit
Edit: it came to me what the problem was. The boomerang will not work on the manual lift rockshaft

Welcome to the forum. Myself, I'm also new, not only to the forum (3 months or so) and to Cubs, again about 3 months. I had a lot of questions concerning the blades also, and the guys steer me in the right direction. Here is a link to my original question on the 54A blades.

Re: new
Welcome to the world of Cub tractors. Great to have the memories of you, your father and the Cub. If the blade is for a Cub it can be positioned in front or mid-mounted. Browse the TM Tractor link at the bottom of this page and you will find pictures of various implements and how they are attached. Manuals are available at the Quick Links tab at the top left corner of this page.

Re: New guy question, blade
Wow. Really impressed with the responses!
All the info is just what I needed. Surprised to see all the square tubing and angle iron.
I have to drive a ways to even go look at it. So I will probably bring it back.
Barnyard, great to hear from someone close and I will try to make the cubfest. You would not know of a complete blade setup anywhere near me or you would you?
Thanks,
Jim

Jim, I have bits and pieces but would have to see if I can put together a complete set. Stop in for the CubFest, you won't regret it,

I have both hydraulic and a manual lift cub. I couldn't imagine why the blade won't mount to the manual lift.

Re: New guy question, blade
Hi,
Below is a 1948 owner's manual for the Cub blade. It has parts and part numbers in it too.
Below that is a page from it telling that it is made to work with Touch Control, or manual lift.
The manual lift is shown in the manual too.

Like was said above, IH changed some of the parts over the years, the newer ones have the spring in the lift.

Re: New guy question, blade
Never tried early blade on manual lift. But boomerang from a nos 54A blade would not bolt up to manual lift rockshaft. Holes didn't quite line up

Re: New guy question, blade
Can't argue with the pic, of course. But that means there must have been manufacturing error in my manual lift rockshaft

Re: New guy question, blade
If I need to do some fab work that is no problem.
I checked out the cubfest pages. This looks like an event we would enjoy attending. I think I can make it on the 21st.
