Got a question. After finally restoring my 1947 Farmall Cub (minus the belly mower), I decided it was time to replace the fluids, so I replaced the fluid in my transmission. I drained the old and replaced it with new. I added 90wt as recommended. Now, when I put it in first gear, their is kind of a grinding noise when I release the clutch and begin to move (maybe better described as a very fast clicking noise). I feel the grinding in the shifter. There is the normal noise in the other gears like I have always had, but I don't get the grind noise in any other gear. This started happening after I replaced the oil, and drove around for 5 minutes, it wasn't immediate. Any thoughts on what is wrong, or things I could look at or do to figure it out.
Thanks again for any help

Re: Grinding in first gear
pull the shifter and check for broken/cracked/ loose shift fork, make sure clutch is releasing when pedal is depressed and in correct adjustment

Hi,
Below is a post from few days ago, read the 2 posts I made there. It tells how to adjust the shifter forks, and has a pic of under the shifter cover. You might be feeling the vibration in the lever because the fork bolt is loose, and the fork has turned, and is rubbing on the clutch shaft.
The 1st 4 paragraphs of my 1st post there tell about it.

The fork could be broken too.

Re: Grinding in first gear
do you throttle down and wait a bit before putting in gear
When you only have 9 horsepower you need to know the names of all of the ponies!

Re: Grinding in first gear
Is it coming from the transmission or the clutch? If the clutch, it is likely the pressure plate fingers hitting the throwout bearing due to the fingers being adjusted too low. The fact that it happened when you changed the oil is just coincidence.
