That's actually my concern with the 10SI. The number 2000 rpm's to initiate charging appears in a number of posts and with the Cubs gov set at 1800 rpm's I wonder how well it works in the real world.

Don't confuse alternator rpm and engine rpm. Alternator speed will depend on pulley sizes for both the fan belt and generator belt. Also keep in mind that there were 2 generator belt pulley sizes on the fan hub.

I used Chipmaker's suggestion of the 12180 mini alternator, one wire. I used the front part of the lower generator bracket for the lower mount, and flattened out the upper mount strap - worked perfectly. Easy-peasy wiring - find the old thread for several diagrams. Charges all the time - 14.6 volts at the battery, I recall. Had to use a 20-inch belt to keep it under the hood, but it was a great improvement to the tractor.

Excellent, thank you, that's the kind of specific information I'm looking for.

Upgraded to 12v last winter when I restored her, used a db single wire 35 amp... Don't really rev her other than normal use and have had zero issues with charging

Forgot to mention... The one I put on her had a test sheet of 1050 rpm kick in, also made my own wire harness for the complete tractor... Pretty simple to do, proper gauge wire, ends and heatshrink

I used a Hitachi 14255 which is not a one wire alternator. 50 amp. It begins charging around 600-700 engine rpm's.

I am happy with it's performance but next time, I will use Chipmaker's recommendation.
