Then I ran across this fast hitch point that had been salvaged from another implement, and bought it with the idea of making a carrier:
Remembering the Agri Supply carry-all, I drove up to the store to take some measurments. The space between the angled uprights is 25"; the crossbar on my point is 24" - I bought the carrier. It comes knocked-down, which made it easy to drill the four holes necessary to attach the point - I'm not a welder:
My dad's old Shopsmith ER10, in horizontal boring mode, made the drilling easy. I picked up two carbide bits at Agri while I was there.
I decided to make the deck removable, in case I needed to use the forks or wanted to cobble up some other contraption to use them for, like a dump bucket for mulch. I cut some untreated pine boards to length (4') and attached them to two pieces of perforated angle iron from a home center. I spaced the angle iron so the pieces would be snug against the forks. I marked a few spots on the forks and drilled out four 5/16'" holes so I can secure the deck with pins.
I made a hand-hold cutout to make it easier to pick up and store the deck.
