1949 Hood & Grill Fit

Postby ctltmp » Sun Aug 13, 2017 2:21 pm

Hi everyone! It's been a while........
Trying to get things buttoned up on the cub and I'm having fit issues.
1) The hood is hitting the generator. No way to tell that was going to happen until I put it on. You guys think if i used a 1" shorter belt it would help bring the generator back enough to clear?

2) I got an aftermarket grill screen (none on it when I got it) and it fits for crap. The two tabs on the top that should hook in the hood are about a good 1/4" from engaging and the radius on the hood corners and grill are far from matching.

Any help appreciated! Getting frustrated......... :help:

Chipmaker posted his experience on this a couple of weeks ago. It might be helpful, also check the HOW TO Forum for ideas.

Hi,
Below is a page from a Cub owner's manual showing how the generator and bracket were. This is a newer Cub, with the voltage regulator, but the way the gen and brackets fit are the same as the older ones. The pics in the older manual with the relay on top of the gen were too dark here on the internet.
I don't know why the gen would hit the side of the hood if you have the original top bracket, I think they were made so the gen would not hit the hood.
If it hits the side of the hood, you probably need a shorter belt.

If the grille won't fit, I would return it and get a refund.
TM Tractor sells them, I've never bought one there, maybe someone that has will write how it fits. :)

Yep, that's the same set up I have as shown in the picture. The hood had a good bit of brazing work done from the past in those two front area's. Might be part of the problem. I'm pretty sure the grill came from yesterday's tractors. Could be a combination of issues. I'll try an inch shorter belt.

The poor old girl was in really rough shape. If it wasn't a family tractor I would have touched it with a 10' pole. I'm past the point of return. Gotta figure out how to make the fit up at least decent looking.

I just bought a mesh grill for my my cub fromTM tractor about a month ago and I was very pleased with the quality. I did have to tweak it a little but it was not to far off right out of the box. There is a nice step by step process of fitting a grill in the how to section.
