Plow restoration
Well finally started restoration of the plow. I have it all apart but have a couple of questions.
1. Were all plows blue? Don't really want to make it blue was thinking about the IH white.
2. Realize theese are probably the proper names but the only parts that were polished metal were the actual plow head and the disc like wheel, correct?

Re: Plow restoration
You can paint it whatever color you want but pretty sure they were all blue. No since in painting the moldboard or coulter wheel if you intend to use it, it will just wear off. They are only shiny after use, rust soon takes over after use.

Re: Plow restoration
You can smear some cheap gun grease on the shiny surfaces to keep them that way between plowing seasons.

Re: Plow restoration
If you are not going to immediately use the plow, either grease the shiny side of the moldboard and coulter, or paint them. To prevent rust. And again immediately after use.
Both the grease and paint will wear off when plowing.

I have an excuse. CRS.

Re: Plow restoration
Thanks. I was thinking about hitting the moldboard and coulter with clear coat.

Re: Plow restoration
I have a Cub 194 plow with a Plow Chief bottom in original paint. The moldboard is blue, the beam is red, and the stenciled letters are in yellow.
For what it's worth, I want to keep my plow bottom shiny, but don't like the idea of putting grease in my ground, so after use I just coat it with linseed oil. Seems to hold up well and keep the rust at bay...

The 194 is different paint colors than the 193.

Re: Plow restoration
Taking the parts in to be sand blasted this morning so still have some time to decide on the color. I can see the original blue pain on this one, so I'm starting to lean towards that. What blue is the correct color?

I believe ACE International Blue is dead-on or at least close enough. Available in spray cans, quarts, and gallons at ACE hardware stores: http://www.acehardware.com/product/index.jsp?productId=62616276

Ditto. Really like this blue. If I'm not mistaken, some are partial to the Van Sickle blue. Never used it, not readily available for me.

Re: Plow restoration
Here is mine under way with the ACE blue, seems like real good paint and matched the original color on plow very close
not a complete restore by any means as I use it, maybe this winter will tear it apart!
